My assumption would be that Jane shows up and helps fight Mangog and either does something to help turn the tide. We fine that Thor is worthy again and he finishes the job or something along those lines. As it seems pretty clear that Thor becomes basically what we know again in the near future.

I imagine this is a good chance for that.

I know that some are probably annoyed that Odin will not be too effective, or at least does not seem to be. I am curious if any reason will be given in the text. I know that comics in general seem to be less "blasty" than they were in the past. Like the Thanos vs Odin fight or similar. Makes things a little less epic feeling in scope.

I am not sure it bothers me too much if Mangog is tearing through things. I know others will be on a different boat. I just never really bought into too many threats actually being serious to Asgard because of how powerful Odin was in particular. Which really cut back on the drama of invasion angles to me.

Having a few foes, with at least reasonable reasons, that can cause problems for all would be something nice to add onto the list. As it was, the times Odin was challenged was a being of similar skill from another pantheon, Surtur, the coming of Galactus, Celestials or something else. Just made the classic foes like the frost giants seems like not a big worry.

I understand that perspective, but past precedent has been that Odin needed to be sleeping or weakened for Mangog to be a serious threat. Even when Mangog killed Odin previously, it was because he was wielding the Odin-Sword, and only after Odin had exhausted himself.

If they're going to change things to this extent, then there needs to be an explanation. Otherwise, it's a mighty tough sell.

I agree that there should be a reason for it. Just saying in general I have had a problem that Odin is so far beyond the rest of Asgard. A slightly different rant.

In general, at least based on other cannon, Odin has always been above Mangog. Maybe if all he did was have a fist fight it would be closer but that is really not classic Odin.

I would say that the first Mangog story, while great, does highlight my gripe. Mangog beats everything and everyone but is stopped cold by Odin. Just anti-climactic. Not that Odin should not be able to but IMO it should be more of a fight.

Granted, just my opinion and thoughts, in terms of cannon it is unusual for Odin to be outclassed by Mangog. That said, it makes a bit more sense in some respects than even with Thor. Although one could argue the Storm Mother had a fair bit to do with that I guess.

Look Raist bunnies...
