The intentions I imagine are to show a character with some defined limits and to lend an air of risk to storytelling, in Brian Azzarello's launch back in 2011 he devised much the same groundwork, and in my view at least did so very successfully. Preferring to strip away Wonder Woman's ability for easy flight rather than emphasise any potential vulnerability for bullets and blades.
One very clear thing about Greg Rucka's construction of the scenes with Diana being shot is that despite two penetrating shots that tear through her chest moments apart she is not incapacitated. It may well be that this is an example of her superhuman stamina in as much as a healing ability, but clearly it would take a great many such shots to seriously diminish her and perhaps for all we know nothing less than a shot to the head could unequivocally stop her...

It makes for a compromise that won't upset the more ardent fans too much, but if I were to have a preference I would much rather go the Brian Azzarello route of removing her ability for easy flight and accept this as the better basis for more suspenseful storytelling.

This would make her an interesting alternative to Superman, as she would really be set apart from him now, as being superior warrior, and showcase off those skills, as now not invulnerable, but mor elike resistant...
