    Short answer: Another waste.

    Generations - Phoenix & Jean Grey 001

This was just as pointless to read as Generations - Banner Hulk & Totally Awesome Hulk ! However, it was a smidgen more... bearable. It appears that the patterned theme is more discernible - a current Legacy Hero is inexplicably transported to the (Universe 8, unchanged from Universe 7) past to confront the original iconic hero of bearing their superhero mantle. None of the 5 W's answered, hence not helpful at all. At least this tale tied into Young Jean Grey's current storyline, more appropriately than the Hulk's was, and the timeline placement was easier to infer (albeit only if you are a longtime X-men reader). The art was quite pleasant too.

Pointless, indeed. If this is what the rest of Generations is going to be like, then it's as I suspected, and they will get none of my money.

The Phoenix is given an impressive power showing in a untold past clash against Galactus. However, Young Jean's whole argument against warning/sharing observations of the future came off very lame considering that's what the O5 have been all about since they got here - altering the natural timeline with their input. It was great to see Uatu again but in spite of his spot on cryptic wisdom, Young Jean really made a wasted trip after not getting one direct question answered or new insight evident - even with 8 extra pages priced at an extra buck.

Agreed, it was very lame. It makes me think of the old quote "...when good men do nothing." She's not even going to warn Jeanix? WTF?! Then that makes her unheroic.

Otherwise, however, it was a fine story with some really beautiful artwork. It's just that one thing that sucks.

And weren't we promised this Generations event wasn't a time travel thing? Not that I'm surprised editors would lie. It's almost all they do. They certainly don't edit.
