Quote:Poor Jean & Wanda appeared at the same time in comics and they were supposed to be the opposite of one another ("mind over matter" vs "randomness").
I'm not sure if they were meant to be opposites of one another - it was more a thing that during the Silver Age there was a tendency for female heroes to have non-physical powers (vide also Sue Storm and Crystal). And of course Stan Lee took Wanda out of the Brotherhood (and the title X-Men) and turned her into a mainstay of the Avengers within less than two years.
Quote:It is so true that Wanda replaces Jean as a psychokinetic in the MCU.
What do you mean by that?
Quote:Unfortunately, after Stan Lee, writers have never known what to do with the two characters.
Or rather they did but tended to disagree a lot with each other.
Quote:To give more edge to Jean, they gave her a telepathic ability when Professor X temporarily disappeared. Curiously enough, nobody thought that her telekinetic power alone could make her badass.
I doubt they did that to give Jean more edge, I think it was because they felt they needed a telepath on the X-Men. Up until Professor X's death/"death" they had been Marvel's only team with a telepath, and so they were once more with telepathic Jean -- it was one of the few unique selling points the X-Men had in the 1960s (since Avengers #16 they were no longer the only hero team with mutants, for instance). Jean, as someone already with a "mental" power, happened to be the most likely candidate for this kind of "upgrade". At the same time Sue Richards developed her telekinetic power (the invisible forcefield) in addition to her invisibility and began her ascent to the Fantastic Four's powerhouse. Maybe someone felt that Jean - who as the leader's love interest also had a similar position on her team - was beginning to look like the Visible Girl.
