Good point. Funny thing about that is, it would be entirely possible for the reverse to be true. Vader's revelation was inspired by the Avengers story. I never underestimate the influence of comics on sci-fi TV and films. There is probably no more idea-rich tapestry than Marvel or DC comics.

Well, there are other older examples of this trope (Scaramouche).
