Reply Subj: Cannonball's Death question Posted: Wed Dec 27, 2017 at 09:40:18 am EST (Viewed 129 times)
Quote: When Sam died at the claws of Sauron in 1992's X-Force, he came back to life and Cable explained that it was because Cannonball was an immortal External High Lord. (This was just after Sam flatlined from being disemboweled.) The plot was dropped for various reasons until in a recent issue of Cable, the claim was disproved by Cable himself as a rumor - nothing more.Quote: If that is true, was it ever explained how Sam survived this traumatic death experience?Personally I've always suspected Sam's brother Josh was the High Lord and history just got it wrong. When the Externals visited the Guthrie farm there was a hint that they might have needed to look at someone else close to him instead to cure the legacy virus that infected them. (years later we would learn Josh had an advanced healing factor) I think Sam being an External was supposedly disproven in an old X-Force storyline where Selene started killing Externals including Gideon and mentioned Sam wasn't one. Maybe Selene (or someone else) was behind the scenes and resurrected Sam once to lend credence to the idea he was an External to keep Cable looking in the wrong direction. Cable's origin used to be all about finding the high lord to stop Apocalypse. Once Selene started killing Externals the big motivation for Cable being in the past vanished.
