I wish I knew why Marvel avoids this guy so much. What's wrong with him? Heck, if the X-Men ever seriously made two official teams of equal stature, east coast and west, my pick to lead the West Cost X-Men would be Banshee. He just seems to have a good head on his shoulders and an effective, gentle way with people. He showed his paternal side on the original Generation X team. I would use him instead of abusing and recusing him.
The problem started back during Claremont, when Banshee was sidelined. But let's face it-- he was never as hip as the Cockrum creations and Wolverine. It takes a lot of work to make him not a fuddy-duddy.
Frankly, I don't think having him be headmaster did him any favours.
