The One, True Spider-Girl

Welcome to the Spider-Girl Message Board, where our motto is

MAKE MINE MAYDAY!

TIME FOR ANOTHER
'SPECTACULAR' SAVE

First came the terrific news that Mayday would get her third ongoing comic book, Spectacular Spider-Girl.

Then came the upsetting news that Marvel changed its plans and Spectacular Spider-Girl will be a four-issue limited series. Plus, the series may represent our gal's last hurrah because these tales will be the final original Spider-Girl stories commissioned by Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.

In his post below, Titanic Tom DeFalco says the limited series may be a trial balloon to see if Spider-Girl still has enough readers to warrant an ongoing series. So we have to prove she does! Remember "Horton Hears a Who"? We have to be the ones shouting "We are here! We are here! We are here!" loud enough that they hear us at Marvel headquarters.

Our first order of business is to boost sales. If you have not already added Spectacular Spider-Girl to your pull list, do it this week! Tell your friends to do it, too. If you can afford it, add an extra copy or two to your order. It is particularly important that we drive up sales for the third and fourth issues, because comic book shops already have ordered the first two issues. If sales defy trends and go up with the final issues, we may convince Marvel to give Mayday another chance. (Web of Spider-Girl, anyone?)

As always, stay tuned to the board for news, and continue to share your ideas on how to promote the comic and save Spider-Girl. We've done it before. We can do it again.

The Spectacular Spider-Girl #3

By Tom DeFalco,
Ron Frenz,
Sal Buscema,
and Colleen Coover

Cover by Ron Frenz

CAUGHT BETWEEN KILLERS! Spider-Girl finally confronts the Punisher, but Wild Card wants to deal himself in (get it?). Mayhem attacks the Black Tarantula, forcing Spider-Girl to literally pick her battle. They're all out to get her, buy Mayday Parker is committed to saving them. No wonder we love her.

Then in THE RAZORED PATH! Spider-Girl is reeling after a battle with Mayhem and is in no mood for Wild Card's tricks (did it again; I'm so clever). In the midst of a fight, Mayday discovers a shocking truth about her poker-faced opponent. Meanwhile, the Black Tarantula makes Arana an offer she doesn't refuse. Lt. Drasco mans up. The Punisher takes his war directly to Don Silvio. And a surprise guest drops in.

Also, Li'l Benjy, The Spectacular Spider-Baby gets up to some mischief in a back-up feature with art by Colleen Coover.

Support Your Favorite Creative Team

Art by Ron Frenz and Pat Olliffe, including original Spider-Girl pages, is available for purchase at Catskill Comics.

"The grassroots support from the SG message board has been fantastic. Those fans have managed to keep Spider-Girl alive. They never gave up on the title. Not even when Marvel canceled it and told me there was no hope of ever bringing it back. Spider-Girl lives because of her fans!" - Tom DeFalco, Spider-Girl writer

"A lot of people don't feel like their opinions matter, but our fans have saved our book from cancellation on more than one occasion and that should count for something. It's the kind of reader participation that Stan Lee used to foster in the early days of Marvel and that's been lost over the years." - Ron Frenz, Spider-Girl artist

"Spider-Girl fans are that unique combination of passionate, intelligent and friendly. They know what they're talking about and they're not afraid to voice their opinions, but in an Internet age that is all too often acerbic, they offer strong, supportive statements. They really love this book and it shows in the dedication they have to it and to its creators. It's refreshing." - Tom Brennan, Amazing Spider-Girl editor
