Infinity gets off to a good start here, but as too many stories and crossover events have proven, a strong ending might yet prove allusive, and in a way, the better the start, the more disappointing the end because your expectations are so high. I mean, how do you explain in a believable way how the Avengers overcome a threat that’s downed the Living Tribunal?

The Builder threat is established. Seemingly Galador and all the Spaceknights are wiped out in the blink of an eye. One especially enjoyable bit is the introduction of an entirely new world and her hero just as a set up to what Thanos has been up to. The hero may be dead, but I’d prefer he show up later just devoid of a limb so that this added story color isn’t all that it is.

Thanos sits on a throne in a setting similar to the Avengers movie. He’s got minions all over the place apparently conquering worlds here and there across the universe, but why? How does this fit into continuity? Last time we saw him, Thanos had gotten ignominiously nabbed by the Elders of the Universe in that horrible Bendis story in Avengers Assemble. How did he get free? Was that yet another clone? Why has he reverted back to his persona of the 1970s? How did he transition to here from the post-Infinity Gauntlet Thanos?

Cheung’s art is great as usual.
