Yeah, I still do not get why this particular movie did so well. I have heard so-so things about it. Other than being about dinosaurs and having Chris Pratt in it I am not sure what it has going on with it different than the other JP movies.

That's all that's necessary for it to do this well. Chris Pratt is the current Hollywood golden boy, and dinos are always awesome.

Even with golden boys, would that alone account for a ~$50 million boost? Seems that we have had those in blockbusters before and it helps the bottom line but not necessarily that much. People really wanting a dinosaur movie more than expected I guess, I think Pratt helped the cause but only so much.

It's got to be Pratt. I've always been a fan of his but even I'm shocked by the amount of success he's getting. He went from being a fat schlub to leading man material within a year. (Parks & Rec season 5 Andy and Parks and Rec season 6 Andy look totally different)

I mean there was no reason for Guardians of the Galaxy to be as successful as it was (people weren't clamoring for a GOTG movie) and I really don't think it ever could have worked with another lead actor. Pratt's goofiness sold it.

Pratt's the new it guy right now. Which is great because I actually like him.

What makes you think I consider Pratt responsible for more than 50 million of it? ;\) He's just icing.

Seriously, I think people (globally) have been ready for a new Jurassic movie for quite some time. Dinosaurs will always be much more popular than superheroes. They have truly universal appeal, transcending gender, religion, culture, subculture, counterculture, politics, nerdism, etc. There probably isn't a person on Earth that can't appreciate dinos. I would not be surprised if there were Bushmen in Africa wanting to see Jurassic.

Not to discount Pratt too much, because he's earned his stardom.

I am willing to give him some of the credit for the haul but I am not sure he can be responsible for that much. Maybe I am wrong and he will become the greatest grossing leading man ever. It just seems a bit dubious to me. As we have had celebrities of the moment that have boosted or failed to boost highly anticipated movies before.

No, but I would put that partly on him. He was great in the film, but Marvel did a great job marketing the film and making it a very fun movie too. People do not need to clamor for something, it is how new things get going if they do not know they want it.

I think people do seem to enjoy some repeats of stuff they know they like. Nostalgia is big right now for instance.

I like the guy, do not get me wrong. I really like him. He is awesome in everything. Just not sure I am willing to go so far as saying his name alone and presence can bring in 50 million+ solo.

I probably just over read into your statement. I love the guy, do not get me wrong. I think he was definitely a boon to have in the film. People like him in Parks and Rec and loved him in Guardians. His star is on the rise.

Most religions. Some do not believe in them...I think. at least that is what I read somewhere. I mean I buy that generally. The first two films were big in terms of box office but they were nothing compared to this one. I could be wrong on that. I remember them being big successes but I do not remember them crushing it to this degree and the third film was not good.

Agreed, I think he was a part of it, a big part. I just think sometimes an actor can get more credit than they deserve or more blame. They are sort of like the president of the film because they are the one we see and for whatever reason care about. At least the public side. If you care about the behind the scenes stuff than we know they are not involved in all the aspects or anything.

The religions that don't are not significant enough to worry about. However, belief in them has nothing to do with entertainment value.

The original was a phenomenal hit at the box office, being the first film to topple ET in sales and breaking all kinds of records and going on to make nearly a billion dollars (in 1993 dollars). It's just doing the same thing 20-ish years later.
