Ever since Priest stopped writing for Black Panther, I have been looking for a regular, monthly title that:

1. was able to condense a complicated story into 22 or so pages without spilling into the next two or three issues.
2. had the same sense of humor as in Priests stories (where the punchline implied that you couldn't take the situation in the story too seriously because it depicts a world of costumed vigilantes, etc.)
3. had a main character, with no super powers (or few intimidating powers in the case of Black Panther) to speak of, who saves the day through wit, determination and partially favorable circumstances.

I finally have found that title with "The Spirit" series from DC Comics. Issue 8 just came out and after reading it, I had to get the previous 7 issues (unfortunately I couldn't find issue 2). The best part about it is how they can develop a detailed story in the span of 22 pages and resolve it by page 22. The converse of this title in terms of story development pacing would be the Moonknight series written by Charlie Huston (is Marc Spector still in a world where Captain America is alive and he is a renegade of the SHRA?).

Is it me or does pretty much every major comic title require three or more issues to resolve a minor story arc? If this bothers you nearly as much as it bothers me, check out Will Eisner's "The Spirit" (google it, wiki it, just check it out). I don't know if Reginald Hudlin reads stuff on this message board, but he should check it out to maybe get some pointers. Hopefully this wasn't too long-winded.

P.S. Black Panther still rules!
