Why does Wonder Woman block bullets with her bracelets but...can take punches from Superman? There's way more psi behind a punch from Superman than a bullet or an arrow, so how does she get hurt from an arrow or a bullet, but can take Superman's punches just fine? :-/

Excluding outside artifacts (bracelets etc), how does her durability rank against the following (Better or worse?):

- Thor

- Hulk

- Original Doomsday

- She-Hulk

- Gladiator

- Extremis Iron Man

- Current Juggernaut

- Wolverine

- Dr. Doom

- Namor (in the ocean)

Why does Wonder Woman need to block Bullets when she's more than fast enought to snatch them out of the Air? ;\-\)

I believe she'd be superior...

Just due to the peculiar weakness to her durability... She can take blunt forces/trauma/heat/cold etc about as well as Supes, BUT she is vulnerable to fast moving projectiles/blades etc cutting her skin...
Same way Thor can shrug off Hulk blows, fly in Space, but his skin welts up on jet fighter bullets striking him!

Huh?

Superman's punches aren't blunt force trauma. With the insane amount of strength he has, Superman should literally be able to shove his finger at high speed through Wonder Womans Chest just like any bullet. Infact, better than any bullet. He has more power behind his finger tip than any hand held gun or bullet and he's faster than any bullet could possibly be as well.

The Sub Mariner also suffers from this "inconsistency" to his durability.

Hey, he's still bulletproof though, WW isn't. The Savage Dragon's skin
withstands bullets/impact etc,yet can be sliced by really sharp objects.:-/

Well; part of it comes down to the fact that the guy who made Wonder Woman was a psychologist and due to the fact that Wonder Woman was meant to be a female icon in comparison to Superman making her dependent on a man would lessen that.

Basically guns are phallic symbols and we can guess what bullets would.

Ergo being penetrated by a bullet would be to some extent symbolic of having sex and/or being raped.

For either to happen to Wonder Woman would on a symbolic sense cause her to lose her status as a icon, conceptually anyways.

Basically Wonder Woman is the "uber-woman" above you on the the pedestal type and as such you can never be worthy of her hence she is "closed" off to you and unaccessable.

See her whole blocking thing is denying access to her in more ways than one.

To do him some credit, it's a little different than being shot at by a .38. Those bullets can through steel.

So is it official that WW is not bulletproof? Because this is lame. Bullets aren't even sharp. All the explosions she's survived should have torn her to shreds then.

I asked because considering how long ago WW was created and the status of women at the time, I found it curious that ANY MALE would take a woman's perspective in regards to the social climate at the time into consideration. If she was created in the 60's or 70's I could see it. Waitaminute! WAS she created in the 60's?!?!

By the way J, I simply MUST ask: Did you ask me that out of curiousity or is this yet another occasion of you getting adversarial over Wonder Woman? I truly hope not.

I was serious in asking. I asked because I, well I dunno, I thought it was common knowledge that WW was a major feminist icon... and for a reason.

She was created, purposely, to be the 'female' counterpart to Superman. She was created to do everything he could.

There was major thought in the creation of Wonder Woman. She was the first of her kind...

Diana first appeared in 1941. Ive posted this quote before as I feel it perfectly explains WW's purpose on creation, its from her creator (he also created the lie detector test, hence the Lasso compelling someone to tell the truth):

“ Not even girls want to be girls so long as our feminine archetype lacks force, strength, and power. Not wanting to be girls, they don't want to be tender, submissive, peace-loving as good women are. Women's strong qualities have become despised because of their weakness. The obvious remedy is to create a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman.

That comment is from American Scholar magazine in 1943.

The point is that she wasnt created like She Hulk to be a female version of a pre existing character. She was created as a tool by a psychologist and feminist to prove a point. She was created to show that a woman can accomplish the same, and more, than a man.

And as I said earier, she was the first of her kind. It was Wonder Woman and her success that led to other female characters like Mary Marvel & Supergirl (and, yes, even She Hulk).

Wonder Woman because such a popular icon that she moved past the medium of comic books - even appearing on the cover of the very first issue of Ms. Magazine (Gloria Steinmans magazine).
