Carrot eating Smith (CeS), knowing he could EASILY deal with the threat that the GI Joe's &/or Shield + the contract hitters represent, simply dials up Marv from Sin City and says, "hey dude, I'm busy right now, callin in a favor." Marv says, "hell, I owe you one, what's the gig?" CeS says, "need you to take care of somma my light-weight." Marv chuckles and says, "sure thing." Yeah, that's about how it would go down.
