Rulk being injured by Mjolnir now and not before is just one more example, of why I don't respect Loeb as a writer to another writer.
In a nutshell, he's a cheat. He doesn't start where he left off.
Hopefully, Annie Wilks from Stephen King's 'Misery' will get ahold of him and explain things to him.

...and this kind of thing is what made me switch to mostly trade paper that I feel are worth taking. No more insane suprise for me. They have to rememeber that a periodic without continuity coherence is not a periodic. What's the point of saying it is? Sell isolated books instead if you don't want to care for continuity.

I have two possible explanations. Either Thor just really turned up the dial after a pep talk (he's done this against Juggernaut) or Rulk was just burning out at that point (heating up from fighting Hulk and others up until then).

but the blunder strikes again. Rulk jobs already?
I agree, what a let down. Rulk punches the Watcher, beats Hulk, then beats Thor AND wields his hammer. Next issue, Rulk is defeated by Thor and then by Hulk with the casual beat-down tactic. So what was the point of the "bewildering" Red Hulk?? Sales obviously.
Unless Rulk possesses abilities somewhat like Pitt, who feeds off the aggression of others and strengthened by pain (although still lame) or something like that, its a real bad story. Rulk however did seem to weaken right before Hulk's come-back. Maybe Rulk is powered by his opponents' "doubts"?.. Maybe Rulk is.. Deathurge!
Just trying to find a method to the madness.

I don't know; its hardly the first time Thor's done better in round 2 than 1; the whole "now I got your measure thing" hell its practically one of his biggest characteristics sometimes.
That and even the first time around it made an "X" of broken skin on his face so it didn't totally "not" affect him even then.
