Individual match-ups decide who moves on to the next round, but votes for "last man standing" in the group fight breaks ties. People who voted "tie" or "draw" did not add to the score. So the results of Round 1 are:

Group 1:
Captain America d. Cyclops 5-3
Longshot d. Agent 13 (Sharon Carter) 8-0
Angel d. Falcon 6-2
Tigra d. Wolfsbane 8-0

Group 2:
Magneto d. Dr. Strange 4-4, but Magneto won 4-3 for "last man standing"
Valkyrie d. Rogue 5-2
Hawkeye d. Gambit 4-3
Shadowcat d. Mockingbird 6-1

Group 3:
Hulk d. Colossus (with Juggernaut powers) 6-3
Captain Britain d. Iceman 5-1
Spider-Woman d. Armor 4-3
Nightcrawler (Age of Apocalypse) d. Beast 4-3

Group 4:
Iron Man d. Sub-Mariner 6-2
Prince of Orphans d. Jamie Madrox 6-1
Wolverine d. Iron Fist 4-3
Shatterstar d. Moon Knight 6-2

Group 5:
Warpath d. Luke Cage 4-4, but Warpath won 2-1 as "last man standing"
Frenzy d. Jessica Jones 5-0
Psylocke d. Daredevil 5-3
Black Widow d. Domino 4-3

Group 6:
Ms. Marvel d. Marvel Girl (Rachel Grey) 4-3
Vision d. Emma Frost 7-0
Protector d. Fantomex 5-1
Quake d. Rictor 5-1

Group 7:
Hope Summers d. Red Hulk 5-4
War Machine d. Havok 6-1
She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) d. Polaris 4-3
Spider-Man tied Cable 4-4 and 2-2 in the group fight

Group 8:
Thor d. Danger 9-0
Storm d. Thing 4-3
Giant Man (Henry Pym) d. Strong Guy 5-3
Deadpool d. Shang Chi 5-3

Here are the rules. All characters are in their current forms in the comics. The fights take place in an evacuated New York City. Combatants start off 20 yards apart. No battlefield removal allowed. Fight ends when one opponent is unconscious or immobilized in a way from which the character cannot escape. 4 characters from each team make 1 group. Tell me who wins the 4 individual match-ups in each group and then tell me who’s left standing as the winners of the individual match-ups fight one another in their group.

In the last round, I recognized I gave Emma Frost a completely unfair match-up, so in order to gather enough X-Men in this round, I'm keeping her in and throwing in Canonball.

Round 2:

Group 1:
Hope Summers vs. Thor (Hope would be able to copy Magneto, Storm, and Cable's powers here)
Magneto vs. Captain Britain and Tigra
Storm vs. Protector
Cable vs. Valkyrie

Group 2:
Nightcrawler (Age of Apocalypse) vs. Hulk
Frenzy vs. She-Hulk
Cannonball vs. Giant Man (Henry Pym) and Quake
Deadpool vs. Prince of Orphans

Group 3:
Warpath vs. Iron Man
Shadowcat vs. War Machine
Angel vs. Vision
Longshot vs. Captain America

Group 4:
Emma Frost vs. Ms. Marvel
Psylocke vs. Spider-Man
Wolverine vs. Spider-Woman
Shatterstar vs. Black Widow and Hawkeye

Round 2:

Group 1:
Hope Summers vs. Thor = Thor
Magneto vs. Captain Britain and Tigra = Magneto
Storm vs. Protector = Storm 5.5/10
Cable vs. Valkyrie = Cable 5.5/10

== i think Mags is a match for Thor and definitely think the team of Magneto, Storm and Cable are way too much. Thor takes out Cable first though.

Group 2:
Nightcrawler (Age of Apocalypse) vs. Hulk = Hulk. easily, even the crafty and deadly AOA version of 'crawler.
Frenzy vs. She-Hulk = She-Hulk. Frenzy is just wwaaaay outclassed here.
Cannonball vs. Giant Man (Henry Pym) and Quake = Pym & Quake wins, but i think Quake goes down here too.
Deadpool vs. Prince of Orphans = Deadpool 6/10. outmatched in battle but his healing keeps him coming till again he lands that lucky shot to win.

== Hulk, She-Hulk and Henry Pym find a way to destroy Deadpool and keep him out of the battle.

Group 3:
Warpath vs. Iron Man = Iron Man is too much.
Shadowcat vs. War Machine = War Machine would use sonics to finish Shadowcat, but she could mess up his systems..... money on War Machine though.
Angel vs. Vision = Vision is too much.
Longshot vs. Captain America = Cap factor out does Longshot's luck powers.

== a four man Avengers sweep.

Group 4:
Emma Frost vs. Ms. Marvel = Emma Frost 6/10 - Carol's good but not good enough for Emma.
Psylocke vs. Spider-Man = Spider-Man doesn't lose to ninjas and should even beat out a psionic ninja.
Wolverine vs. Spider-Woman = Wolverine 8/10.
Shatterstar vs. Black Widow and Hawkeye = Shatterstar has ZERO chance here despite his great warrior prowess. Widow & Hawkeye wins 10/10 times.

== Emma & Wolverine is TOO good a combo and both outlast the Avengers team here.

Avengers - Hulk, She-Hulk, Hank Pym, Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Captain America
X-Men - Magneto, Storm, Emma Frost, Wolverine

doesn't look good for the X-Men

Group 1:
Hope Summers vs. Thor

Clearly and definitively Hope wins this as she has acces to the boosted powers of Storm - at a boosted level would more or less equal or cancel ot Thors weather pwers, but also boosted Cable and Magneto powers and since she has no techno organic virus Tor is simpky and totally outgunned.

Magneto vs. Captain Britain and Tigra

Mags wins probaly although if the fight was in London I'd fancy Cap's chances.

Storm vs. Protector

Storm unless Thor somehow interferes

Cable vs. Valkyrie

Cable probaly although Val has game.

logically this is a clean sweep for the x-dudes

Group 2:
Nightcrawler (Age of Apocalypse) vs. Hulk

Hulk - not buying the teleoprting head argument in this case.

Frenzy vs. She-Hulk

She Hulk - just better on allcounts.

Cannonball vs. Giant Man (Henry Pym) and Quake

Pym and Quake - possible that cannball takes one of them out.

Deadpool vs. Prince of Orphans

oooooh - any given sunday type of matchup. I'll guess Deadpool

in the end - I'll go for Hulkk, She hulk and Pym left standing.

Group 3:
Warpath vs. Iron Man

Iron Man - no real explanation needed here surely.

Shadowcat vs. War Machine

dunno. War Machine should win though.

Angel vs. Vision

Vsion - total mismatch

Longshot vs. Captain America

Cap -although Longshot has a shot.

Clean sweep for the Avengers.

Group 4:
Emma Frost vs. Ms. Marvel

Frost gets the win this time becaue she isn't up against an android!

Psylocke vs. Spider-Man

psylocke's got the gam bu Spidey's got the class. Class counts, Spidey wins.

Wolverine vs. Spider-Woman

close and on papre she has a chance but I just see him toughing it out and somehow taking the win.

Shatterstar vs. Black Widow and Hawkeye

Shatterstar has game and he has humiliated the Thing in the past but these wo have history and chemistry. They double tem him for the victory.

In the end though Frost takes them all down and herself and Wolvie are left stnding.

    Psylocke vs. Spider-Man
    Wolverine vs. Spider-Woman
Shatterstar vs. Black Widow and Hawkeye

Emma, Psylocke, Spider-Woman (she's beaten him before), Widow/Hawkeye. Emma and Psylocke are left standing.

i honeslty don't believe I underrate Ms marvel but I'm curious as to how she's favoured against ms frost here. Frost either takes her down with psi, or if she proves too resistant she turns diamond hard and stalemates.

Am I missing something?

Thor can overcome all of Hope's abilities she would lose.

I figure that Ms Marvel is a physical equal to Frost. I think her ep is the same ko potential as Frost. Factor in her skill and she wins IMHO.

I actually think in some ways the so called fanboys are just more honest (whether that comes from maturity or immaturity is case by case I'm sure). What it comes down too the vast majority of time is attachment, affinity, obsession and what have you. I'm a believer in reasoned argument, but most of what takes place on the comic boards is the illusion of argument. I can break this down some if any one wants to challenge the notion, but whenever I read a long multi-page argument about how the Hulk should beat Superman, usually the arguments are so bad or baseless (and usually because the premises are ad hoc and essentially arbitrary), that person might as well have said, "Hulk beats Superman because I like him better, and the thought of Superman beating the Hulk makes me very uncomfortable. This is very likely because at a young, vulnerable, and delicate age I began to associate the Hulk with warm, safe feelings." I honestly think that emotionally speaking, for many comics fans, the idea of another character beating up their favorite superhero mascot, is like imagining a stranger beating up their childhood teddy bear. There are moments where reason is more or less operative in decision making, I don't think the battle board is exactly replete with those moments. It's a bunch of highly emotionally charged language, masking itself as disinterested intellectual back-and-forth.

Also, I find it highly unlikely that Thor fans are any worse than Superman or Hulk fans, or Nightcrawler fans for that matter. I believe it's the same psychological make up. The particular object avatar is more or less interchangeable.

"I think Wolverine would win because I like him." I forget who the opponent was, though I think it was either the Hulk or Superman. After all this time, I forget who the poster was, too. But I replied something along the lines of: "This is the best and most honest reasoning I've seen. I'm not going to argue with you on this."

So, in other words, I do think you're onto something here.
