I was wondering what the die-hard FF fan thinks about DC's new Dark Matter comic book The Terrifics, clearly patterned after Marvel's MIA First Family.

I am kind of interested to see how it goes.

Is there a release date for this yet?

I've never understood why so many female superheroes feel the need to get their chests out in battle.

I'll check it out and give it a chance. I like Jeff Lemire's work in different things he's done. The art looks sharp. I'm buying far more DC than Marvel these days which was unfathomable to me 5 years ago. Hopefully it will be good and do well. Altho, Metamorpho really needs a better color scheme for that costume!

Wow. That's kind of brilliant for corporate copycat conniving.

That is a shabby nod to the FF, IMO. These characters have no real connections do they? This is a sloppy mishmash of b and c list heroes.

I don't see the appeal. I'll check it out though since DC is at least doing something that Marvel should be doing.

... I think that such a pastiche of the FF could work as a Vertigo book and that's probably how Lemire intends to write it.

Still, if it is written as a Vertigo book, how can it be different from a Doom Patrol book (the Chief // Mister Terrific, Robotman // Metamorpho, Phantom Lady // Negative Man, Plastic Man // Elasti-Girl) ?

... and Jeff Lemire cannot use the Doom Patrol, since they are currently part of the Young Animal imprint (which can be defined as Gerard Way being nostalgic of the Vertigo book written by Grant Morrison).

So, honestly, for me, the verdict is still out ... If it is only a marketing ploy, I am not interested.

If it is a storyline in the style of Vertigo, then, it is probably better to read it as a trade paperback than one issue after the other.

Otherwise, I don't know what Jeff Lemire plans to do with them. Metamorpho was created as a parody of Silver Age characters. Plastic Man is a slapstick comical character. Phantom Lady used to be one of the most famous examples of "good girl artwork" ... So, the only way I can see this book work is as a satire and a mise en abyme of the genre (which, again, makes me think about the Vertigo Doom Patrol) ...

I won't be proactive on this one. I will patiently wait for what others think of it.

I already tried to read Lemire's Moon Knight and I was quickly & totally lost at the beginning, only after a few issues.

I can't seem to find a roll out date as of yet.

I too am buying less and less Marvel, and like yourself, that would have been unimaginable in years past. I really like Lemire's Thanos run, didn't like his Moon Knight but it was on the heels of an amazing story by Ellis. That was hard to follow.

I loved Plas back in Grant Morrison's JLA and Mr. Terrific's evolution in the JSA under Geoff Johns.

I think I'll give it a shot and see where it goes.
