In the new Spider-Man movie, there will be a quartet of supervillains with elemental powers.

Apparently, two of the members will be Hydro-Man & Molten Man.

We don't know yet who will be the Air & Earth Elemental villains.
Sandman seems to be the obvious choice (too obvious ?) for the Earth Elemental.
Mysterio (// "Mist") could be the Air Elemental, except if they want to use one of the minor Spidey villains (Cyclone or Bora) or if Vulture comes back as the Air Elemental ...
I don't know if villains such as Grey Gargoyle, Moses Magnum or Whirlwind can appear in a Spider-Man movie.

IMO, not only this team is a prototype of the Sinister Six but also it is a combo between the Frightful Four and the different teams of Marvel Elemental supervillains :

- Elementals(1974)
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/elementl.htm

- Elementals of Evil (1979)
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/rokkorrs.htm#Elementals

- Elementals of Doom (1981)
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Elementals_of_Doom_(Earth-616)

- Force of Nature (1991)
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix4/forceofnature.htm

To sum up, yet another concept intrinsically linked to the Fantastic Four will appear in the MCU (or in this case, the Marvel+Sony shared sub-universe) even though the FF themselves won't appear.

Sandman makes plenty of sense, although I don't know if they can make a version of him better portrayed than they already did. Will-O-Wisp comes to mind for air. He was always an overly powerful character and born in Spidey comics. I'd LOVE a Mysterio in the movies.

I feel sorry for the FF because a lot of the concepts that 1st appeared in a FF book have already been introduced in the MCU : Black Panther, cosmic characters, Kree, Skrulls, Inhumans, ...

The Elementals is yet another concept that was explored in the FF book. Not only because of the Torch being a Fire Elemental but also because of characters such as Diablo or Crystal.

Maybe, they can replace him by Quicksand, for example. This way, there will be a female member on the team, just like in the Frightful Four.

I've already seen some leaked set photos of Jake Gylenhall in costume as Mysterio and he looks an awful lot like Doctor Doom should, if he's ever going to appear in the MCU.

CBR has them posted in this story from September

I have the feeling that Mysterio will be the equivalent of both Wizard & the Trapster in this movie. After all, in the comics, Mysterio teamed up with the Wizard against Spider-Man & Human Torch. Just like Wizard & Trapster, Mysterio is a tech-based villain and he likes to build & use deathtraps against his enemies.

So, let's suppose that Mysterio replaces both the Wizard & the Trapster, they can complete this "Frightful Four" team with 3 villains with Elemental powers : Hydro-Man, Molten Man & Sandman.
If they want to have a female villain in the team, Quicksand can replace Sandman.

I suppose but it still annoys the hell out of me that all of these Fantastic Four characters/concepts are appearing in other characters's movies.

So do I.

I think that Marvel Studios made a big mistake. The FF are as important to the Marvel Universe as Superman is to the DC Universe.

I've recognized the "DNA" of the FF in many MCU movies : Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok, Ant-Man & the Wasp. I am betting that it will also happen in Captain Marvel.
