Oh god that engagement song at the end was painful to watch. I was horrified at the thought of my neighbors hearing it.
I didn't really enjoy this one that much. I'm not a big fan of musical episodes or musicals in general. But I did enjoy the musical episode of Buffy (Once More With Feeling) and the one on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (The Nightman Cometh). But this one was really cheesy. I think a musical episode can work if it's really against the grain of what a show usually goes for...but Flash is already an upbeat show. It pushed Flash into schmaltzy territory. When a dark show like It's Always Sunny does a musical it's hilarious.
I will admit I was impressed with Gustin's tap dancing. That must have taken a while to rehearse.

Who the hell thought this was a good idea for an episode?
Everyone involved should feel a deep sense of shame and embarrassment.
Please...never again!

I think the idea came from
1. Several of the actors in the Arrowverse have a musical background (I think the actors who play Barry and Kara were on Glee along with the music meister actor...Joe was in the musical rent)
2. I think a lot of the creators/actors in the Arrowverse are um...gay. I don't say that to be homophobic. I'm sure most gay people hate musicals as much as anyone else. But there's a certain subsection that probably love them that exemplifies the stereotype.
There's like a lot of characters in the Arrowverse played by gay actors
1. Malcolm
2. Roy
3. Pied Piper
4. Barry's dad (Henry)
5. Martin Stein
6. Captain Cold
and the creator Greg Berlanti's gay.

After a crap day at work, this was fun, stupid, silly fun...just what was needed! lol
Honestly, it made no sense to have a musical episode, but It was nice to laugh at the show intentionally, rather than by accident.
Is Music Meister supposed to be a riff (get it) on Myxpltz?
Jesse Martin was in wonderful voice, as was Winn ( forget the actor's name). Was pleasantly surprised by Cisco. I think he and Winn went to school together? Kara's singing was a bit off to me. I am always surprised when Grant sings; to me the voice never matches the face. Weird.
I can take or leave a musical. However, I think it was more for the cast than the audience. A lot of them have musical theatre backgrounds ( receiving high acclaim), and three of them did perform on Glee together ( Meister, Kara, Barry). With the long tv schedule I think it would be hard for anyone of the main cast to do outside projects. So this may have been a way to keep the actors happy (aside from their huge paychecks).

Nope. Sorry. The only two excuses I'm accepting on this are:
1) Complete mental breakdown.
2) Phenomenally heavy drug usage.
Nothing else is forgivable.

I'd say it was far worse than you seem to think.
I actually physically cringed at several points during the episode. And not just a 'mild grimace' kind of cringe. This was the whole head down, shoulders hunching type of cringe.
Truly, truly awful.

I'm all for having fun and the occasional light hearted episode to break the tension a bit is a good thing. Highlander the TV series for example had a few of those but then the action went right back up in the next episodes.
Babylon 5 had a few as well, yet still maintained some seriousness in them, such as the one when Londo had to pick which of his wives to divorce and which one to keep. Hilarious episode and I wonder how many retakes some of the Londo scenes needed due to them bursting with laughter.
Also there was the B5 episode that took a poke at merchandising.
However this musical episode I will sum up in three words......
.....JUMPED THE SHARK!

No, Gustin isn't.
IMDB says he's been in a relationship with Hannah Douglass since 2014, and there's a quote there where he confirms he's not gay.

I didn't know he was.
I mean I automatically assume every male actor on Glee is gay but perhaps that isn't socially responsible. I mean I was kind of glad they brought up Fred Astaire and gave Barry a tap dancing scene...musicals and most forms of dancing I find gay...tap dancing I don't.
(not that their's anything wrong with being gay...just saying...they're trying to sell a Barry/Iris romance...and that guy who played Eddie was already kinda feminine)

I liked the remark Winn made a while back on Supergirl where Winn mentioned he knows he and Cisco would be great pals if they just lived in the same universe.

Well after reading this thread I went into it last night with some trepidation, but found it wasn't so bad. I fast forwarded through the three songs and I had a nice tight 30 minute episode.
Oddly the biggest beef I had with the songs was not the singing, but rather that they were clearly lip syncing (to their own studio recorded songs).
