I was thinking about stuff that, knowing myself, Im surprised I never got into, based on other things that I like. I have thought of a few and would like to hear from anybody else.

The Lord of the rings: considering I liked D&D, Im surprised I never got into the original. I tried reading the Fellowship but the slow beginning always had me giving up. Even in the film I felt the slowness.
I watched all the films and enjoyed them, but wouldnt really go out of my way to watch them again. I like Tolkien in general but feel I should like it more.

Flash Gordon newspaper strips: I really liked the old Buck Rogers newspaper strips. I thought Id like this as well. While Alex Raymond's art is excellent I just couldnt get into the stories.
And I love the cheesey movie.

Dr Who: Ive never even found time to try it. Considering I like Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, Im surprised Ive never felt the desire to try Dr Who.

I'm sure there are a few more, but these are what came to mind.

I never read Lord of the Rings either. I suppose my problem is that I never got as into novels as my friends. I think my mind wanders too much when I read. My friends could read a novel in one sitting. I'd read about a chapter in 2 hours and do that every day until I was done, usually taking a couple weeks to read a book. So that kind of held me back.

I didn't get into any of the newspaper strip serials. I read Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes and Garfield, and collected many of their books. But when it came to the adventure serials, which I think would be right up my alley, I never got into them. I got a collection of Flash Gordon as a gift and I read some of it, but went no further.

I grew up watching classic Doctor Who on PBS so I always liked it. In the DVD era I went back and collected a bunch of the old stuff. I also liked the new version up to a point but didn't keep up with it.

So my friends got into a lot of novel series that I didn't. They all watch Robotech on TV and I never did. I also never got into Babylon 5 despite its popularity among SF fans, and only watched it recently.

I never got into anime much at all, although I liked the Akira movie and went back to collect the comic which was even better. So I missed out on Dragonball and Avatar and lots of things my friends watched when we were college age or beyond. I never got into the Power Rangers which I think started when I was in high school (and their Japanese basis, Super Sentai, which started in the 70s).

I also never got into the Adult Swim stuff on Cartoon Network like my friends did.

Harry Potter - I've always like shows with magic, but the movies came out at the wrong time for me to be going to them (just had little kids). Never had a strong urge to watch them or read the books.

Lord of the Rings - I remember the Hobbit cartoon from when I was a kid, so I remembered Bilbo Baggins but never read the books. I've seen the movies, but am not in love with them like other people.

Star Wars books - considering I love Star Wars, I don't know why I never had the urge to read any of the books. I read the Bourne series, and a couple other ones in high school and college, but never checked to see if my library had Star Wars books when I was growing up.
