I know it is a "wait and see" thing, but I really don't understand putting head gear on the Hulk.

Going into this, the only wish I have is that Cates has read many, many Hulk stories and understands Hulk. I don't want to see a Hulk in space that needs some breathing apparatus since Pak already established that is unnecessary, for instance. I am hopeful Cates doesn't come in and treat Hulk as a blank slate...

Here's some preview art and some more explanation.

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/free-comic-book-day-reveals-hulks-new-story-operation-smashtronaut/

"when we asked "Is that Bruce Banner in control, referring to his body as a space ship?" That seems to be the case, with Banner piloting the Hulk from inside."

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I'm trying to keep an open mind here, but so far, I really don't think it's looking good.
I also mod the Thor Board and they're really not happy over there with what Cates is doing to their favourite character. I'm afraid the same will happen here...

Back in the eighties when I was a kid I remember a cartoon where Bruce Banner would strip down to his purple trousers and then stand in a spot and press a button on the floor with his toe, that then led some kind of ray hitting him and releasing the Hulk.

Did I dream this? Did it happen? Can't find it online.

If it isn't my imagination then this idea looks like its been done before.

Waitaminute..

Bruce gets control of the Hulk but he somehow loses control?!?!

If ONLY someone could have anticipated this..

Surely som-- ok, I give up. So tired of the Hulk vs Banner thing. Especially since by now he should know as a scientist he can't cut off parts of his brain/self.

Seriously waiting to hear how he's going to attempt to explain all of this.

At this rate I half expect them to say their bodies were split apart, but Bruce shrunk himself and is ACTUALLY inside Hulk's body thereby bypassing the whole separation sickness thing. Hulk can't get rid of Banner as he's in his head literally.

If true, and they kept with how it should work, Banner would act like a tumor in Hulk's head, slowly going insane and no one would even know.

If this were any more "90s" I'd have to read it in an oxygen bar, while wearing a fanny pack and listening to Napster.
Should I shave the sides of my head, too? Oh, wait--the Hulk already has his high n' tight.
The attached picture is from 2021. No, really.

Try Hulk 269.. I remember it also. Rick bombarded himself with radiation that way.. although I can't remember if it was foot activated or via a joystick button type thing.

Although to be fair, it may be Abomination you're thinking about..

The idea of Banner piloting the Hulk's body as a spaceship is ridiculous, even by comic book standards.
How does that even work? I sure hope they don't give him a jetpack or rocket boots...

I can't imagine the Hulk coming out of Ewing's run as a mindless drone, so it seems the last 50 issues are already being ignored.

I wonder where exactly the Hulk is "locked away". In his mind? In a lab or some sort of prison?

Count me in as skeptical as well. Cates has been hit or miss on Thor, at times I've felt he has respect for the character but at other times I'm just a bit baffled. He wrote Venom well, but then again I came into that blind having not kept up with the character for years now for the most part. I remember being excited for Waid to take over this series a few years ago after the shitshow Aaron dealt us only to be equally underwhelmed with Waid's take, so it is hard to not have doubts now. Hulk in some sort of partial armor with a cylcops-like visor, and is he just going to fly through space? Is this a space suit? Will he have a ship? If not and just this thing with a jetpack, this sure feels more like Marvel Adventures like someone else said. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for what it was and at the time it was often more enjoyable than the real in-continuity series (if I remember correctly), but we can't have the real Hulk acting out of character and being silly like this.

I'll be giving the book a shot, no doubt, and I'll probably pick up every issue because I'm a completionist... but I hope I'm also enjoying it. I won't lie, I love seeing Hulk beat the hell out of other characters so if we are in for that ride, I'm down. But instead of new worthless characters we'll never see again, I'd love for a slugfest with Mangog for instance and some cosmic heavy hitters.

That would be the first 6 issues of Hulk Vol 1.

Sounds like DC's Damage gone spacebound to me.
