I finished reading the comics adaptation of I Am Legend last week. It's a solid read, more like reading an illustrated novel than a comic book, but a good rendition of the original which largely here. I'd have to do a closer comparison to know, but it seems that Steve Niles did very little tinkering with Richard Matheson's original words and the work contains large sections of just verbage. The artwork is the problematic part, as the artist doesn't seem quite up the task. The linework is sometimes very effective, but generally seems too thin and lacking in drama to pop off the page effectively. It's when I see art like this that I really appreciate strong inkers like Giacoia and Sinnott. Also the character design for the main character Neville seems to have drawn too much from Charlton Heston to fully work for me. I'd have preferred a less distracting model for the face. There are some good passages and some genuinely scary sequences, but the original material is so perfect it would be difficult to miss it by much.

I can't fully recommend this one unless like me you're a diehard fan of the original novel, then it's probably worth the money and time.

To get another opinion and see some of the artwork check out the link below.
