Subj: Questions about G.I. Joe

Hi,

I've been a Marvel fan since 1976 (parents bought me my first book, Incredible Hulk #213 at age 3). I was the pefect age to respond to G.I. Joe (both the toys and Marvel comic). I was 8 when the first issue came out...not sure if I had started getting the action figures before of after this. Anyways I was a huge fan...loved the cartoon/had most of the action figures and accessories and even had a subscription the comic for 2 years (I ended up with 4 copies of #21 because as an undeducated 10 yr old I thought my 'wordless' copy was defective. My Dad called the subscription department 3 times and demaned that I be sent a correct copy. After the 3rd call, they agreed to just extend my subscription by 2 issues).

I eventually moved on to other things, and by the time i came back to comics...G.I. Joe was cancelled and I forgot about it. Recently I have thought about getting back into it, but have some questions.

1. Is the current G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero series by IDW a natural extension of the Marvel series? Meaning, does it 'read' the same?

2. Are the other IDW series an 'alternate' take on G.I. Joe? Same character names--but different universe/stories?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (sorry for being so long).

Jason
