Subj: French company Glénat is able to print Conan comics because Conan is considered public domain in Europe?

I knew Dark Horse lost the license and Marvel will be again be printing Conan comics next year.

I did not know Europeans could just sell their own versions of Conan. As I understand it they're putting like 12 of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories in these albums (I think they call comic trades albums over there). They're not reprints of the old Marvel or Dark Horse takes on those stories.
