Hi

Just read JLA 6 and I actually enjoyed it. I'm not saying it was amazing because it wasn't. I do agree the story has taken far, far too long but the beautiful art has helped keep me happy. I also agree there has been way to many splash pages....

I'm not overly happy about the choice of characters. I would have prefered to see Zatanna and Elongated Man on the final roster. Zee because I like her alot and I think after Identity Crisis she needs so fresh material and also Ralph because I always prefered him to Plastic man and I think aafter Sue's murder he needs to be with his friends..I know 52 has other idea's about this....

Supes, Diana, Batman, Dinal and Hal I am in complete agreement with. Vixen I am happy to see back...she impressed me on Suicide Squad..Hawkgirl I aint so sure about - think I prefer her in JSA. Black Lightning and Geo Force and Red Arrow the jury's still out on...I think they all deserve to graduate and will watch to see how they are handled...

Upcomming Stories I'd like to see are :

1. With 2 ex-Outsiders on the team I'd like to see halo return and join up. I think Gaby is a unique character with loads of potential...

2. I'd like to see the original Cadre Return....

3. I'd like to see the League throwdown against some villian who can reanimate some of the deceiced members ie Steel Vibe, Crimson Fow, Ice, silver sorceress....

4. I'd love to see a new secret society with one of each of the leaguers foes in it....what about...Silver Banshee, Nocturna, Silver Swan, Star Sapphire, Roulette, plus a couple of others..

5. A new satalite headquarters wth teleport tubes...

Eh... I prefer Plastic Man. His powers are just more potent and his sense of humor helps balance out Batmans lack of. Plus Batman is the World's Greatest Detective. To me, with all respect, always had me scratching my head wondering what was Ralph doing on the League.

I've smelled this from the beginning. Outsiders in the League? Cool only if Meltzer gives them their own arc. Halo was never fleshed out in a way I was comfortable with. So maybe Meltzer will tune in to her alien possesion much better than in the original series. Plus for some reason I alsways wondered why she and Black Lightning did become a couple.

Bless you. I guess someone had to like Vibe. That's one.
Anyone else this brave to admit they liked him?

I love the nostalgia with the satellite but when I went into the military I realized how much of an easy target they would be floating in the open like that. I mean that damn thing crashed 3 different times that I remember.

I did. Last year I got the issue of JLofA that introduced Vibe, and really enjoyed it. I picked up the kind of recent JLA Classified arc that starred the Detroit League just for Vibe.

And a few summers back, there was an crossover in the annuals of Justice League members and JLA that dealt with Felix Faust trying to gain an item of huge mystical importance, and as a result, the ghosts of several dead Leaguers showed up, including Vibe, Steel, Ice, etc..

I still have those issues and I was a Vibe fan for a while....and then as I grew older I picked up he was pretty much a negative sterotype than a character. Perez even voiced his hesitation about having to draw him in the JLA/ Avengers crossover.

I may still own the annual. IMHO, Vibe was written much more "respectful" in some flashback stories when they were exploring the League by eras in some mini series a few years ago.

I never cared for Vibe. Gerry Conway portrayed him as an hispanic stereotype and that was just wrong. While I admit I am not the most PC of people, I felt for any hispanic comic fans that read Conway's Detroit League. Of the new members of the JLA during the Detroit era, I liked Steel and Vixen. But I much preferred Vixen back in her first appearance in ACTION COMICS instead of JLA.

What killed me about Vibe is that he was played as such a ridiculous stereotype... and then we learn he's been pulling a Luke Cage and faking it for the gang's sake so he'll be underestimated about 15 minutes before they killed him off. I don't think you can read his exit issue without liking him a little, if nowhere else.

Not much love for Steel either. It's funny. I have the entire(give or take an issue) of the Detroit League. But Steel, Vibe, and Gypsy just never evolved into characters worthy of League status. When Commander Steel popped up I was really pleased though.

Gypsy just looked like a Modonna clone with bad hair. But she could camo up real good.

But Vixen....lots of potential. I missed her early Action appearances but she was handled really well in Animal Man.

Ahhh. I remember that now. I agree it was a little too late.

Later Booster Gold formed the Conglomerate and Vibe's brother joined. Don't recall anything that added or repaired the Vibe legacy though.
I still feel a bit of surrealism whenever I saw Vibe cameo on the JLU catoons.

Well, his final choice for a name was a LITLLE less stupid than Vibe. \:\) Actually, I've always thought that Hardline would make for an interesting guest shot in Robin's book.

Oh, I totally agree. Especially when grouped with the rest of the Detroiters.

Ahh 1984 - It was a classic year before that nasty Crisis came along and wasted things....

Okay issue. I agree there were many beautiful panels that helped the story reading. Surprised the conclusion warranted a final issue/chapter in the arc. Anyways here's some impromptu page by page (possibly meritless)points...

+Everyone has there own color for narration squares
+Mimicked movements with Red&Amazo
+Grundy as tough BADass
+Portrayal of Vixen (where's a good DC ish with comparing powers to Buddy?)
-Goddess reference (is this a first?)
-Vixen tracker (forgot when that was done and how it works)
-Markovia coast (thought it an inland country)
-Disjunctioned(word?) Geo&butler (he's disoriented on way to bed, offered a unsolicited/unspecified prescription, requests immediate transport?)
+Roy out of his leauge(pun intended) and his play by play
-Roy thinking of heroes by real names in battle (seems it should opposite)
-Batman in close quarters (when GL should be able to saw both)
+How tough and deadly Amazo is shown to be
+JLA seem ready for him too
+Red's human feelings of pain are poignant
-Grundy is tough BADass but can't kill Red even though he can rip off arm
-Canary Cry focus on antenna (how is BL not affected at least)
+BL focus on antenna (he has control over his power, free of doubt gained in Outsiders recently)
+Amazo's slowprocessed narration though jarring, makes sense and works
-"then your eyesight" (didnt follow that)
-JLA DONT seem ready for him in hindsight considering more effective strategies that couldve been employed
+Amazo's powers strategies, the JLA should've been toast
-Roy still standing, waiting, doing not much
+appearance of Hawkgirl and her deathwish
+Kathy vs Amazo moment
-Bats carrying 3 (?!)
+Peregrine dive strategy
-Triceratops (extinct animals now/too? Or maybe cuz/if they live in Skartaris?)
-Nth metal absorption (thought it wouldnt be possible for some reason)
-guantlet for Red (didnt see where it came from and why)
+Grundy's fear of dying now
+ripping the arm
-eating the arm (not necessary since he hasnt finished the job and probably doesnt need to eat as he doesnt have a heart to keep pumping)
+Kathy's visible agony was realistic
+Red's dying efforts, and tornado stats, very heroic
-"no I was supposed to be the one..." (this guy appears in this story out of nowhere)
+Red's dying request inevitable and on cue
-Zatanna there in the field doing mystic triage
-Phantom Stranger in the field doing mystic triage (suprised he'd be there)
+nice last page
-as mentioned, not the final chapter (seemed like could be)
+VERY nice art

Overall a balanced issue - seemed equal share of pluses and minuses.

...I think I was still using my "Marillionfan" handle then, but... here it is: http://www.comicboards.com/jla/attachments/050129064920/banner%20JLA%20Vibe001.jpg

I always preferred/still prefer Animal Man to Vixen. I have never got the real feeling that Vixen is handled nor portrayed properly. It would be nicer if there was something that really made her stand out as something other than an Animal Man lite.

... and, yes, I am biased ;\)

In all fairness Morrison's Animal Man is hard to follow with any character! ;-p
