I haven't been able to follow the recent JLA storyline, but I had heard that the Red Tornado now has a human body. I'd really appreciate it of someone can explain how this happened and how he's retained his abilities. Thanks!

The Red Tornado was placed in one of Multiplex's bodies by Felix Faust and the android shell was taken by Solomon Grundy to house his essence as an immortal. The Red Tornado regained his android shell and is now back in it.

Lord Majestros:
Usually, his soul just floats around, waiting for his body to be repaired when it's destroyed. However, after his body was fixed after being destroyed during "Infinite Crisis", he asked Deadman (really Felix Faust posing as Deadman) to help Reddy put his soul into the recently deceased human body of some guy. I don't remember if they explained how he retained his powers, but his did. anyway, the whole thing turned out to be a plot by Solomon Grundy. Basically, it was explained that when Grundy dies and comes back, his mind and personality vary, sometimes he's smart and other times he isn't. Grundy wanted to combine Reddy's body with Amazo's tech and put his own soul in that body. The process Faust used to put Reddy's soul into a human body was meant to eventually kill him, but Grundy sped up the process by beating the human body badly. There was also a spell that trapped Reddy's soul in the human body, so when it died Reddy wouldn't be able to leave it. Reddy was able to muster an attack that ripped Grundy in half and the JLA got Zatana and some other mystics to lift the spell that trapped his soul in the human body and it was then put back in his android body. Reddy chose to have all the enhancements that had been added to his body, like the Amazo tech, removed.

Assuming that they didn't retcon it. Reddy is also the Tornado Tyrant, an old enemy of the Justice League, and/or Earth's Air Elemental with the soulimprint of Tommorow's stillborn son if i remember correctly.
Don't know which origin survived into IC-continuity, but he is a sentient force of nature inside an artifical body, hence it shouldn't really matter in which body he is stuck, he alway would retain some of his air powers.

He's (still) a sentient force of nature inhabiting a robot body, he's not a robot who got a soul (like say Marvel's Vision). I never heard about the whole soul impring thing from Tomorrow's son, I like the idea, but I haven't seen it mentioned in a while at least.

That came from the Elemental War. A storyline from the last(not the recent)Firestorm series. Firestorm had become Earth's Fire-Elemental and there was this story with all the other elementals including the Swamp-Thing picking sides and going to war. I think, Captain Atom was also somehow linked to the Elementals, though it wasn't said how.

Anyway, the Elementals had one thing in common, a human being had to die in fire, so that this soul would become the template for the elemental.
And there it was stated that in Red Tornado's case, it was Tomorrow's son.

I kind of want track that storyline down, I've heard of it before, but have yet to read it. I'm kind of split though, I like the idea of RT having Tomorrow's son's soul, but I also like the whole Tornado Champion thing.
