As I look at the JLA banners on this Message Board I see that the only member of the original Justice League of America missing is Firestorm. He also happens to be my favorite Justice Leaguer ever so it's kind of sad. I guess I really go for the underdog.

That's because Alex Ross is not really a Firestorm or Elongated Man fan. Any time he can substitute Plastic Man for Elongated Man, he will. As for Firestorm, if the JLAer did not appear before the end of the 1960s, Ross usually doesn't paint them with the original icons. However, Ross is great at depicting B, C, D and F league superheroes for other comic book companies.

I'm just curious. Which characters are you referring to from other companies?

Captain Marvel and Plastic Man were owned by other companies at first. DC purchased them later.

Ross doesn't consider Firestorm a "classic" JLA character. He probably thinks of him the same way as many people think of JLA characters like Vibe or Fire. His idea of the ideal League is the League from the late 60's/early 70's, with Captain Marvel and Plastic man thrown in.

Don't forget about Hawkgirl! She joined the League a few years before Firestorm and before her name change! \:\)
