Subj: Why?

Why is it so hard to maintain a JLA lineup? It seems like every 2 years now we get a total re-do on the team, often with a whole new reason for being and everything. Morrison's core had a solid run (it always was essentially the big 7 with a handful of additions), but since the League has struggled for an identity. I know that some of this has to do with the fact that the creative teams seem to change regularly right now and each team of creators wants to offer their spin...but why? The original JL of A went through a ton of creators, but maintained the same general focus...maybe just an additional member or two here or there. Why can't we do that now?

My fix would be a large but stable cast of characters that are mainly big guns: Superman, WW, Batman (actually ok with that being Dick), Flash (preferably Wally), Zatanna, Green Lantern (Hal if we must), Red Tornado, Captain Atom, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Booster Gold (finally getting some respect and love), Supergirl, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Major Disaster. I would establish 4-5 as the core team who were on "full time" duty, have others respond as available, occassionally assemble a particular team necessary for a mission, and almost never have everybody show up at once. Its essentially the "all star League" from Young Justice, with a few quirks. With that roster, you can tell most stories, have some interesting interactions continuously, and "in story" deal with almost any crisis that comes up.
