This is a fun interview with Jeff Lemire on his new comic Justice League United. Lots of discussion on the membership. Supergirl and Stargirl were not on the initial line-up and I was not hoping for either girl to join (the Black Canary was my first choice for a female member; she might join later on). I was also hoping for Katana to join but she was obviously ruled out (maybe we'll see her in Birds of Prey again).

I'm glad Martian Manhunter will be on the team. He was one of the obvious choices for JLA members along with Hawkman and Green Arrow. After all, J'onn was a founding member of the original Justice League of America in 1960, Justice League Detroit in 1984, the Giffen Era Justice League in 1987, and the JLA in 1997. I think he's going to be the leader of the team of five men and three teenage girls. Also, Martian Manhunter will have an addiction to Tim Hortons Doughnuts rather than Oreos since the group will be located in Canada.

Issue #2 will have Hawkman as the main character. I'm glad he's going to transfer from the Justice League of America to the Justice League of Canada (he was one of my first choices along with Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern Simon Baz). I just hope Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone can add the Atom to the cast (preferably Ray Palmer or Ryan Choi). After all, a team with Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Hawkman could use the Atom as well.

It comes to no surprise that Green Arrow is on the team. Let's face it, Jeff Lemire's doing a great job on the Green Arrow comic and he was one of my first choices for membership candidates for transferring from the JLA to the JLC. I wonder how the Canadian public will treat this cool archer. Also, I wonder if Justice League United will be the perfect place for Ollie to meet Black Canary. I'd like to see a Green Arrow/Black Canary hookup, Jeff and Mike.

Animal Man is no surprise, either. Jeff did the Animal Man comic since Day 1 and he and Adam Strange worked together in the 52 miniseries. With the Animal Man comic cancelled, I think this is appropriate to put Animal Man with a group. Will we see his family as supporting characters? Let's hope so.

Adam and Alanna Strange got some mentioning time, too. Both are revealed to be Canadians rather than from the planet Rann. We are going to see Rann in the first storyline, however. But imagine having three Canadians (the third being the new girl) working with a Martian and five Americans. No wonder why the team is called Justice League United rather than Justice League of Canada.

Finally, Lemire decided to keep the new First Nations girl a secret. Although we did get a glimpse of her on the cover of Justice League United #1 (which, by the way, was a good costume and look), Lemire kept the codename and the alter ego a secret. Perhaps we'll learn in April. Yet Shannen Koostachin is looking down on DC as a spirit.

Hopefully, we might get some more members as time goes by. My top ten picks are the Atom (either Palmer or Choi), Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Metamorpho (let's face it, the Unimaginable is in the first issue, so why not bring back Metamorpho), Black Lightning, Centrix of the Global Guardians, Captain Atom, Cindy Reynolds (Gypsy), and Plastic Man. Only Jeff Lemire knows if we'll get these people.

So let's bid Steve, Selina, Tatsu, Simon, and Cisco a fair and fond adeiu and welcome a new generation of the Justice League. Hopefully, we'll see Steve in the pages of Wonder Woman. Catwoman will be in her own magazine. I'm not sure about the other three JLA members (hopefully we'll see Katana with the Birds of Prey, Simon and Cisco I'm not too sure about).
