I think that he would be the most logical choice, but I read a few people say that Amazo is really the team's arch-nemesis. I like Despero, and he did cause some serious damage to the team, didn't he? I guess maybe the Injustice League could qualify? How about The Key? Has he been used in the New 52? Has Despero? I also really liked Dr. Destiny in that Neil Gaiman storyline. Who would be the League's number one villain?

I guess it depends on what era you're talking about. The early JLA didn't seem to have an arch enemy at all. They had a few regulars, but no Dr Doom or Magneto. I think in more recent years, DC has pushed Darkseid as the League's arch enemy. But even he hasn't had the exposure that most arch enemies get.

Personally, I don't think there is an arch enemy for the League. As dangerous as Darkseid is, he just doesn't face the League often enough to be an arch enemy. And Luthor is more Superman's foe. Who else is there? Amazo, Vandal Savage, Grundy.....the Royal Flush Gang? It's actually kind of pathetic how poor the League's rogues gallery really is, given how legendary the League's core dozen members are in the industry. It says something about the quality of writing coming out of DC, that their premier team has to poach villains from other titles to fill out their enemies list.

Their Archenemy is Starro. Almost Every run of JLA has Starro as a villain within 3-6 arcs. He is a threat to the entire league when he shows up.

Now the argument against is that Starro is not iconic enough nor has a personality to Arch.

But Every potential foe has some issue with why they are not a perfect fit as the JLA's arch.

And hasn't he done more damage to the team? He just seems to be used a lot.

The thing about Despero is that he's only been a tough opponent after DC revamped his character during the JLI era. Before that, he was about as significant as the Key. His modern version is formidable, in Eclipso's threat class, but arch enemy? I'm not sure I'd go that far.

Starro's a LOT tougher than you give him credit for being. Whenever he's faced the League, it's usually the whole team that goes against him.

That's completely unlike Dr. Light, who went after the whole team in his debut, then lost to several individual members (Superman, Green Lantern, Atom, among others).

I'd say their main arch-enemy are the writers who put Vibe, Gypsy, and that young Indian girl on the team. (She was so boring a character I can't even remember her name!) She came about during the Justice League Europe days.

Despero's revamp as a major threat is actually a little earlier than the JLI era; it happened at the very tail end of the Detroit League era.

darkseid makes a great foe for them, as does Lex luthor gang that had the general on it!
