The conversation below made me think that the only thing that Crisis on the Infinite Earths gave us was the notion of legacies. Before Crisis, most of the heroes were their own men. Barry Allen read comics, but he didn't really take on the GA Flash's legacy...he took a name from what he thought was a fictional character. It would be like Batman taking on the name Sherlock Holmes because he admired the character.

What Crisis gave us was the notion of legacies. And the years and years later, we seem to be utilizing legacies more and more.

When we one world, it made sense to create character legacies. But now, that we may have multiple worlds...is there a need for legacy characters?
