I realize this is the JSA board, but I had a question that could possibly be related to this board. I've been enjoying the current Jonah Hex series. They are some of the most gratifying & satisfying stories out there right now. I ran across something though, back in Jonah Hex #11. In the book he teams up with another western character, El Diablo. El Diablo had some stories published back in the 70's. Anyway, Lazarus Lane, aka, El Diablo, makes mention of being the host to a vengeful spirit. My question is, has there been any mention that he has some passing relation to the Spectre or even better... the Crimson Avenger? I'm familiar with El Diablo's origin, which does not make mention of either legacies. But there are certain similarities.
1. "host to a vengeful spirit", "vengeance rides for you tonight", "vengeance is served" All are quotes directly from El Diablo.
2. The man walked through fire. Was shot at point blank range, all to no effect.
3. While he does use a whip as his main weapon, he is in possession of a gun, which I'm assuming he has to use at some point.
4. The crimson mask, glowing red eyes on him & his horse.
Maybe the 'curse of the Crimson Avenger' is something that's been around longer than we know. Perhaps its something thats broken off from the Spectre. Perhaps it goes beyond the twin blazing colts off Lee Travis. Perhaps Lee Travis himself was just another successor to the curse at some point after Lazarus Lane's time? And on a sidenote... is there, or could there be a familial connection between Metroplis' favorite female reporter & El Diablo?
If any of you read Jonah Hex go back and take a look. Thanks.
