I was just reading the first issue of Damage (from April of 94) and noted Grant had some rules he lived his life by. I thought it would be fun to apply those to the way he is handled in the JSA now. Keep in mind Grant made these rules when he was in high school. (for frame of reference)

Emerson system rule one "Go out for the team, any team.Being on a team changes you from the new kid to the new kid who is a team."

This could explain another reason why Damage is on the team of the JSA....a full team like the JSA. Maybe a stretch but its worth mentioning. It could also build his reputation as a hero to be noted. (as Grant was kind of an under the radar kind of hero) imo

Emerson system rule two "Make friends not enemies. If you don't have any friends you can't afford the luxury of any enemies."

Interesting philosophy for a hero...then again making friends in the JSA is always a good call. Rarely have I seen this concept in a character or at least phrased like this.

Emerson rule number Three "Don't even think about girls. For the first two months in a new school. Girls cause you break rule number 1."

Grant seems to following this rule so far during his time with the JSA. Granted most of the girls on the team are either a) in a commited relationship (like Liberty Belle) or b) much younger than Grant. ;\)

Emerson rule number 4 "Never tell your parents whats really happening with you. If its good they won't get it. If its bad, they can't handle it."

This rule could be applied to the senior members of the team (GL, Wildcat,etc_ in that Grant had some anger issues early on in the JSA. He really did not deal with them too well on his own. imo the senior members are somewhat like parents...at least in concept

Emerson rule number 5 "When you are ready to make your mark make it big. Never be afraid to make a name for yourself."

I don't think Damage has gotten to this point in his tenure with the JSA. Perhaps its something coming along down the line...maybe he will kill Zoom if revenge for scarring him? Maybe he will generate an explosion that will deal with a major villian??? Maybe he will make his "mark" by dealing with his own "Damage" as in his internal problems, his character flaws. Its interesting to speculate on the possibilities.

as always good reading to you all
