Subj: The Origins of the Apokolips War...?

The opening pages of James Robinson's Earth-2 delivered a sequence of events no one saw coming. So upon recently revisiting John Byrne's final Generations series the similarities between the basic background plot with Apokolips waging War across time and space were most familiar... when we are then treated to the final days of earth's three greatest heroes, though events take on an all too uncannily familiar air:
With its inventive use of Golden-age through to future-age history I liked Generations a good deal, particularly the first volume, by series three however the strain was telling and the climax and its resolution was the type of deus ex machina I generally abhor in such epics. That Byrne then uses the same 'out' to finish his otherwise underappreciated Blood of the Demon series not two years later betrays a profound lack or imagination and ability on Byrnes part... a shame as both series were generally of a very entertaining nature otherwise.
