***I personally think that The Punisher MAX series(Best title Marvel has been putting out monthly imo) is still part of the 616 Universe but it is just the Rated R stories that we are not allowed to see in regular marvel books...others beleive it is a different Universe altogether...what say you?

Its a different universe altogether. In the 616 universe Punisher is younger but in MAX he's an old guy who's a vet from Nam.

Uh..unless there was some huge circle-logic retcon that I never heard about, mainstream MU Frank Castle is indeed a Viet Nam vet. Always has been.

As for the initial question, I tend to disregard most of the MAX line as a whole. Generally speaking, it isn't referenced anywhere, so its hard for me to think of it as in-continuity.

The Marvel MAX version of the Punisher is set in the Marvel Universe world but without superhero appearances (in fact, the only other Marvel Universe character to appear in the unlimited MAX series thus far has been Nick Fury). Castle's timeline remained untouched when Marvel adjusted the timeframes of other characters. His history has never been altered or moved up, creating an unaddressed chronological anomaly. In order to preserve suspension of disbelief, Garth Ennis has refused to put any superheroes or supervillains in the MAX series, focusing only on more realistic foes.

So basicaly, if you really want to get down to the continuity, imagine the Punisher was never de-aged/made the Angel of death or wahtever in the '90s and there ya go.

And yes, Punisher is a Vietnam vet in currrent continuity. One of the few characters still tied to a specific war besides Cap.
