I always wondered how Marvel's United States dealt with President Nixon killing himself or being the head of a terrorist organization. You'd think it would be a newsworthy event.

SHIELD covered it up. I think it was mentioned the following issue, but, its been a long time since I read it. How, was left vague and to my knowledge it was never followed up. I always assumed Nixon was replaced with a LMD under SHIELD control. IT'S PONDERRIN' TIME

If you go back and look at the issue, it is never actually said that it was the president, it was just heavily implied. And many of the actions held little connection to Watergate directly, so there was still some plausible deniability. Of course, if you really wanted to call me out, a better choice would be the cover of Captain America #1 or almost any Golden Age Superman, you know, when he was a bordering on left wing propaganda. No, comics have never been the most subtle of mediums. There is a proper way to do social commentary. Drawing on it for drama like Denny O'Neil often did, or using allegory like the Secret Empire, or exploding out to unrealistic means to explore it like almost all science fiction (and yes that is a tad hyperbolic). But They could have Nixon get his masked pulled off and say, "I would have gotten away with it, if not for that pesky star-spangled Avenger," and it would have been more subtle. I don't even like Trump, and I think that is... just lame. The real question I have, is why is the Prime Minister of Canada on teh cover of a Marvel comic in such a way. That has nothing to do with the kind of man, pro or con, just I kind of want to know, why on an American comic?

So maybe the issue has something to do with Canada? ![]() Justin's father was even in Alpha Flight #1...

Thanks for the info. Like I said, my confusion was in no way ideological, just confusion at a Canadian Prime Minister being so prominent on a cover an American comic. I'm still not entirely sure, but at least I know that there is a precedent. Again, thank you.
