Secret Empire - Brave New World 004
Do you want to hear THREE jokes?
•a most uninteresting introduction to Nuhuman Annie of unkown power, pickles-obsessed-crosscountry-driving Mech and one of many safehavenleader Queen Bea *yawn*
••a most annoying chronology placement in S.E. for Misty Knight
•••a most unlikable decision by Falcon to let Misty figure how to handle an 'Underground Railway' run by herself... but he manages to apparently monitor her successful delivery to California (with no mention of New Tian) through the eyes of some (what better be random) Falcon which is just a bland ending to a bland adventure
•we get NO transition from Emma the villain of IvX to here (or other S.E. crossovers) of her oddly forgiven status as Council Woman of New Tian and Red Carpet celebrity
••we get a throwaway introduction of Tatyana the Volcanic Mutant and an unacceptable presentation of Sebastian Shaw as her yes man and Mirror Boy
•••we get (another) writer's random and nitpickworthy presentation of X-telepathy. Let's see this Omega Level icon is able to pick up multiple snippets of TP thoughtsof an Underground human assassin but is unable to pinpoint or attack/defend telepathically. Ditto against Tatyana (whom incidentally Emma IS familiar with but confoundedly is surprised/ineffectual vs the Undergound mutant's TP skills). Then in an attempt to impress readers with Emma's Omega Level skill (in one of the dumbest ways possible) she mindwipes the crowd and stages a do-over so no one remembers this 'little incident' and keep the HYDRA/New Tian peace
(but let's face it, it's really about Namor, and it's just a slight that just adds to the character diss he's been getting in the Event)
•NOPE. This story chapter got worse. Namora got damsel-y. Namor got dumb-y. He was actually swinging to decapitate her for poorly defined treason and only the timely intervention of his unidentified Advisor.
••Now, its pooossssible that Namor staged this jailbreak but then why not tell Namora or take the mortal trident wound? It's a messy effort to misdirect readers if that's the case. And why would the King be shaking like a scared little school kid?
•••Even the mystery identity of his Advisor is getting annoying as he moves on to (once again) free the story's albatrosses, Torch and Toro, at the end. Any guesses?
