Finally, the true Jean Grey returns the 616. Now can we get rid of the X-Men from the past? Please? https://comicvine.gamespot.com/articles/after-14-years-jean-grey-returns-to-marvel-comics/1100-156480/

She's been dead long enough to keep her that way. She probably should have stayed dead the FIRST time!

The only point to her death and continued death was to force the Scott/Emma Freakshow, and that's gone. Thankfully! On the other hand, bringing her back can't be a good sign for Rachel. The fact is that no character can fill the niche that Jean can. Rachel has the most potential to, but no one seems interested in doing it. City of Heroes is BACK!

I hope her death is a truly horrible one. ![]() Quote: The fact is that no character can fill the niche that Jean can. Sometimes it seems like she's a guest star in her own life. ![]()

Quote: The only point to her death and continued death was to force the Scott/Emma Freakshow, and that's gone. Thankfully!I was generally pretty interested in the redemption tale of Emma, but again, as usual, I was entirely oblivious to so many stories that I bet made the whole thing implausible. In my on-again off-again experience of Emma, she was a villain who fell in love with Scott and then tried to be a hero for Scott's sake. (Pretty much identical to the Diamondback story line in the Captain America book, back when that book was readable.) Given my admittedly over-simplified rendering of what she's been doing all these years, it makes sense that Emma would go back to being a villain, now that Scott is dead. Quote: On the other hand, bringing her back can't be a good sign for Rachel.Quote: The fact is that no character can fill the niche that Jean can. Rachel has the most potential to, but no one seems interested in doing it.With Scott and Professor X dead, what would you say Jean's niche is? Are you focusing on her power set or some other aspect(s) of who she is?

Subject: I think that, as a character, Rachel is a 1000 times more interesting than Jean [Re: The Black Guardian] Posted Thu Sep 21, 2017 at 07:13:58 am EDT (Viewed 260 times) |

Quote: The only point to her death and continued death was to force the Scott/Emma Freakshow, and that's gone. Thankfully! On the other hand, bringing her back can't be a good sign for Rachel. The fact is that no character can fill the niche that Jean can. Rachel has the most potential to, but no one seems interested in doing it. To be honest & sincere, I am not a fan of Jean Grey. As a character, I prefer her daughter, Rachel. Here is my post about it on the X-Universe Board : https://www.comicboards.com/php/show.php?rpy=xmb-2017092111004405 Quote: Quote: What's the point of keeping her dead. ... because she has never been more interesting in a book than during the original Dark Phoenix story. Normally, I always prefer old-school Silver Age characters to newer ones. For example, Silver Age villains : I dislike when a newcomer easily wins against a veteran. Still, Jean Grey & Scarlet Witch are two of my exceptions. Stan Lee is a genius when it comes to write about male characters ... not so much about women. It can be explained by the fact that Silver Age superhero comics were written to be read by 1960s male teenagers. Ororo, Kitty Pryde, Meggan, Firestar, Mirage, Illyana, 1980s Rachel Summers, are a 1000 times more interesting than classic Jean Grey ever was and ever will be. She only became interesting during the Dark Phoenix story because it was fascinating to see, for the very first time, a major good character becoming a cosmic threat to everyone and because there was a moral dilemma about her fate. Then, she was brought back in X-Factor and her return created much more mess than it added value. Also, the character was totally bland compared to other female characters of the same period. The only true event was her lackluster wedding with Cyclops. Then, much later, after decades of stories during which nothing happened to Jean Grey, Grant Morrison had no choice but to imagine something, anything, to make her less boring ... and the Phoenix comes back, and she dies again. So, what's the point ? Rachel Summers as the Phoenix has always been more interesting than her mother.
