Doctor Strange 012
Plenty of detailed art effort and storymeat to chew on.
Really offputting to see Galactus to concurrently appear here and in current FF title arc. SUre, one arc takes place before other but will we ever even get the order? Can you guess the sequential chronology of Big G of late? Just seems like poor Bullpen planning when there's a plethora of characters in the MU to use instead if some writer is using the same. Wonder if Waid/Lowe or Slott/Brevoort pitched for Big G first? Aaanyways...
Can someone ID ALL the baes in Doc's life on page 1?
Nice enough opening nostalgic flashback to Doc. Really offputting that his Avengers tenure and current status were not included. For that matter, was there an adventure/issue where Doc "OFFICIALLY" reclaimed the title/mantle of Sorcerer Supreme (that he matter of factly acknowledges himself as once again)?
Intro of Zoloz (and Zaraxia) was interesting. He gets an fun POV of sorcerer superiority and noted power up to be a formidable foil for Strange. (Aaand once again the fallout that should have happened following Last Days of Magic are blatantly whitewashed. His planet seemed unaffected and the artifact treasure trove that supercharged him in the Sanctum seemed simply back to maximum inventory capacity.)
Curious showing by Norrin to lose to the Warrior Race of Mystics. Remind me what ish Surfer started slumming for Galactus again? Really offputting that Doc denied, here, ever fighting Galactus before!! How many times has it been? He was key/instrumental in taking Big G down in Byrne's first few FF issues.
Clicking on Tau Ceti here: https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Guardians_of_Infinity_Vol_1_4 goes to the IRL wiki page. Does this system ever appear in other back issues? It sounds familiar - maybe 'cuz it's a real thing or Tau sounds like Taa from Big G's origins.
No supporting cast, particularly no Bats cameo (if only to watch over Doc's body after Zoloz yoinked his astral form). And no call for help (from any of his many powerful baes and superfriends shown it the very opening for instance) since he had the time to make the weapons.
Zoloz vs Doc win was energetic/entertaining enough.
Zoloz vs Big G win was WTH impressive pawning.
Really offputting if Doc can easypeasy whip up new Omega Level artifacts, toot sweet now, with his newfound aranological forging expertise. Really offputting that he continues to propogate his Battle Mage image instead of mastering more mystical spellcasting.
Despite all the the real offputting stuff which is actually more peeving than dealbreaking, this was an entertaining ish. And the cliffhanger crisis keeping Big G trapped in a magical plane and Doc off to fix the problem is interesting. The next issue cover implication is a very grabber image.
Doc's going with a Soul Patch.
