So last I read the whole Captain Marvel trademark situation is a bit of a sore spot in the DC./Marvel relationship.

Well marvel did get the trademark fair and square, it was lapsed and thus first come first serve.

Anyway......let's try this idea. It's not quite a crossover so much as a lease or a time-share deal, similar to what Marvel and Sony did to get Spidey into the MCU.

An event occurs in DC comics, for example Dr Manhattan banishes Shazam to another universe. It is only Shazam, his support characters like Tawney the Tiger, Mary Marvel, etc all remain...but without him they lose their powers.

Billy arrives in the Marvel Universe and while he is trying to seek a way back to his dimension, he still has his powers and thus still fights the good fight on Marvel Earth.

Thus we can get some interesting stories of how he would or would not fit in with the Marvel characters, and of course he would have to fight some of them.

Imagine: Shazam vs. The Immortal Hulk (or any other persona of The Hulk)

Shazam vs Abomination

Shazam vs THOR (the REAL THOR, not the emasculated wimp of hammers that is currently in the book)

Shazam vs the Asgardian DESTROYER armor

Shazam vs Juggernaut

Dr Doom: he always wants power and knows magic, he would be very interested in Shazam's power source.....

Shazam vs Silver Surfer and Galactus!

Shazam vs Hyperion

As a further spin on things, soon after arriving in the MU, he realizes his name is supposed to be Captain Marvel....thus he starts using the name which draws the attention of Carol Danvers.....

Anyway it is an idea I had, kind of a sink or swim thing to see if Shazam COULD be used well in the MU and possibly lead to a story where he gets to choose: stay in the MU or go back to the DCU.....

His decision of course reflects what Marvel/DC decide about the trademarks....

No sympathies for DC from me. They should never, ever be allowed to have a mark with the word Marvel in it. No deals.

And I really don't see any incentive for Marvel, especially now.

Billy Batson IS the real and only Captain Marvel, and he should come to Marvel and stomp Carol for that name right!

Well when Carol's popularity begins to drop they will need to do something. Carol vs Shazam with Shazam possibly moving to the MU for good would be interesting. If nothing else they can make it a huge sales gimmick to artificially boost sales for a bit.

Given that Marvel already has characters that are Superman analog's or "inspirations" they might as well get the biggest one of them all

Also marvel could use a character with a more positive or sunny disposition

It wasn't very long ago that DC fans were trashing Marvel characters for being to jokey and lighthearted.

Anyway, I'm pretty much with The Black Guardian. Billy Batson's icon faded because DC took action and worked to make him less relevant. DC has no right to complain that their actions were successful.

Well my point wasn't so much that DC sabotaged the character so much as coming up with a possible way to test a resolution to the trademark issue between the companies over the character and a possible permanent migration of the character to marvel.

Marvel has tried to replace Mar-Vell many times, Carol is perhaps the best success, but that is debatable

So why not seek out the original character and work out a deal?

Even before Carol, there has never been any incentive for Marvel to make a deal. Back in the "dark days" when Marvel had to struggle to find a way to use the mark every few years, there was zero incentive. They don't need to do something. And there's even less incentive now that she's a billion-dollar star.

Pfft... he never even earned the rank of Captain. As far as captains go, he's about the fakest there is. \:D

Well, maybe Captain Ultra...

No. Even Captain Ultra is less fake.

I doubt that anybody will want more of a resolution to the trademark issue that what is already here. Besides, at this point I don't even think it a Marvel/DC issue. It's now an issue between Disney and WB. That means that a migration of the character is to Marvel is about as likely to happen as Elmer Fudd or Daffy Duck becoming a Disney character.

The movie has already made a billion dollars (as of today) so that probably makes the character of Carol an official success.

Because Marvel/Disney doesn't need to, and more than likely no company involved will ever want to.

But is Carol a success because of the comic or the movie?

I don't think it matters to the powers that be at the MCU. Either way, she's becoming iconic.

Actually, Marvel has moved from a comics editor producing movies to a film studio editing comics at the same time. (^_^')

You know....that would greatly explain the DROP in the quality of some of their titles.....(looks over at Spider-man and "thor")

I'd say that it has an impact on the Marvel Universe as a whole because the current comics have become by-products of the movies (contrary to the vintage comics which are still a source of inspiration for the movies ... Yes, it is an Ouroboros).

But, yes, I don't think that the current writers & editors have a lot of freedom with the characters currently because one of senior-level executives might be afraid that it kills the goose that lays the golden egg.
