Guardians of the Galaxy 008
This was only chapter 2 of 6 and, for being an all-exposition issue about Halfworld and the Universal Church, the truth is that it wasn't half bad...
Origin of Rocket retrold. Did Moondragon mindmeld any new canon stuff here?
Curious uncharted twist with Rocket's super-raccoon enhancements about to expire.
Sympathy elicited (from the 2 on crew and intentionally readers) for the skin and bones raccoon.
Empathy shown by Groot - albeit in his newfound gruff and angered reparable manner. His arguments against Rocket's rights to self-pity are arguably half decent.
Rocket decides to go all "Marvel's Shogun Warriors". May or may not be fun. It is a logical option given his literal deus-ex-machina mad skills. Of course, Patriarch wiped out (almost) all of Nova Corps and more. What pray tell say YOU?
Meanwhile Patriarch is pawning everyone who has a name in the OHOTMU handbooks and killing everyone else. This includes the GotG, Lockjaw, Cosmo, Quasar, Darkhawk, and maybe Ch'od and Kl'rt. Only Quill isn't purple-brow possessed for SOME REASON THAT MUST be more than allowing his father to reveal the master plan of The Church.
[EDIT: Yeah, it was Ch'od and probably all the Starjammers judging by the next cover.]
The big reveal is the plan is to give a coccoon birth to a male substitute for Adam Warlock to be sent to the future to "KILL DEATH". It's only a couple words but might be a variation on Starlin's Magus storyline obviously. (Might want to re-Google what happened there...). And the big surprise is they're not just making one Adam Warlock wannabe but a multitude army of them as seen on the cliffhanger page.
Oh, and Lockjaw talks. Well, telepathically but in fully enunciated bardic olde English. Okay, THAT was bad. Testify!? Not a fan of that. Curse all that Pet Avengers kiddie marketed self-aware ambiguity. Going to No-Prize and say it was just the way Cosmo was teletranslating "the great hound dog's sentience".
DUMB misleading cover that shouldn't be forgiven.
