I'd like to try out a new weekly thread. The idea is simple-Tell us something you were a fanatic about in the 80's or 90's and give us examples.

Were you a fan of Marvel comics? did you collect all the Marvel cards? Did you dress up for Halloween as any of the characters?

Were you a fan of Star Trek TNG? Did you go to any of the conventions? Did you wear a costume?

Did you join a fan club or a fanzine?

Did you send an actor or character a letter? Did they write back?

THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES. You can talk about ANYTHING!

We want you talk tell us about anything extreme fan antics and of course if you can include a picture!

I'll be the first to admit I was really into Highlander back in the day.

I even bought some cool lithographs from the show. And after that I got the Official Highlander Catalog in the mail like every couple of months. Does anyone else remember this? You could buy everything from DVDs of the show to mugs, to replicas of the swords. I always wanted the swords but didn't have the money.

Someone here bought some of the swords I know it!

I also bought the TV show sound tracks vol. 1 and 2. I loved some of the music in the show especially the Irish folk song "Bonny Portmore."

So we share one thing each week that we were a fanatic about?

I was definitely a Star Wars fanatic. I got ALL the novels and most of the comics. I almost always had a Star Wars book in hand back in the 90s(family and friends made fun of me a little, but it was all good natured). I would read those books over and over again. I especially loved the novels by Zahn, the X-Wing series of novels(especially the Wraith Squadron ones), and the Corellian Trilogy.

Things have not been as good for Star Wars since the prequel movies and since Del Rey got a hold of the book licensing, but I still love and enjoy to this day the original trilogy and the books published by Bantam.

For a little while I was a participant on alt.devilbunnies and played a few characters, the best being Ready the Squirrel.

What? You never heard of alt.devilbunnies? For shame! Click, and be enlightened as to the fluffy menace:

A great deal of energy and creativity were poured into this jointly imagined universe.

I read a lot of Star wars novels too. The Timothy Zahn ones, A lot of sort story collections like Tales from Jabba's Palace, Tales of the Bounty Hunter, etc. There was "I Jedi" that was a really good one! there were a bunch of novels about Boba Fett, I think it was called the Mandolian Armor Series. I read all those.

So I was a fanatic too!

I was obsessed with the short lived 80's Cartoon Visionaries. And I participated in an RPG in which we created new characters and took them threw Merklynn's trials as portrayed in the first episode of the show.

Here is the beginning of the first episode

Oh, there have been so many things. \:\) .

My musical obsessions have centered mostly on the Beatles, Zeppelin, and their ilk, with side trips into Kinkdom, Fleetwood Mac Land, and many other places.

My biggest comic obsession would have to be my love affair with the FF. I was obsessed with them for many years. And from that, anything Kirby tickles my fanatical funny bone.

There are too many other things to list, really.
