Subj: Cartoon Fun 16: Shazam! - Star Master And The Solar Mirror

The Kid Super Power Hour With Shazam! was a 1981-82 Filmation superhero cartoon.  It had two segments, Hero High, about a high school for superheroes that was created to be part of the Archie universe, and Shazam!, starring the Marvel family, Capt. Marvel, Mary Marvel, Capt. Marvel Jr., and Uncle Marvel.  The episode "Star Master and The Solar Mirror" featured a crossover between the two cartoons, with Capt. Marvel seeking help from the Hero High heroes to defeat Star Master.

Star Master attacks the Earth and when the Marvel's challenge him, he captures Mary Marvel and Capt. Marvel Jr..  Needing help to defeat this powerful menace, Capt. Marvel goes to Hero High and enlists Glorious Gal, Rex Ruthless, and Weatherman to help him and Uncle Marvel battle the villain.  The heroes create a solar mirror which deflects Star Master's ray which had intended to melt the polar ice caps and flood the world.  Star Master is defeated, but he vows that he is not gone for good.

I know I watched this cartoon but I always thought it was older than 1981-82.  It does seem to be more in line with the Archie cartoons of the 60's and 70's.  It was a bit goofy, but not bad.  However, when looking at the superhero cartoons of the 90s, and even the 80's, it seems less sophistiacted.  I'm sure they were going for a younger audience than Batman TAS, but it seems even more childish than Superfriends or Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends.  Nothing wrong with that, but not really something I enjoy.  I think I'd rather revisit the 70's live action Shazam! show than watch more of these.
Regarding Hero High, Wikipedia states that the characters were to be part of an Archie cartoon, but Filmation lost the license, so they moved the characters to Shazam's universe and altered them slightly.  However, one can still see the Archie characters in these Hero High heroes.
