Secret
Wars

A Future Imperfect future:
Ruby Summers is roaming through the desert (like thinking about the heroes she was told about that once existed), and comes across a kneeling man. He tells her he's really Odin, once King of the Gods (and wears an eyepatch), and she cares for him, and carries him off to Dystopia. There, they run into Janis Jones, who then takes them into the underground hideaway they're affiliated with, that's trying to bring down the ruler of Dystopia, the Maestro. Lots of people seem to live there. Janis calls "Slider" to scan Odin's mind. As soon as she does, she gets a mental "shock," saying: "He'll kill us all!" He then removes his eyepatch, and the others realize he's NOT Odin, but actually a self-called human named "Robert Bruce Banner," who then morphs into: The Maestro. While Janis calls everyone to fall back, Ruby takes on Maestro, but doesn't fare to well. Others shoot him in the back with lasers, but quickly recovers from the blast. After some maniacal laughter, he does a hands-slap force attack, followed by crushing Janis' staff. All seems bleak, then from behind Maestro comes what Janis calls "Boss," and is actually: The Thing!

Comments: Ok story. Not much else to say. Still waiting for possible 2099 references.

Future Imperfect

In DYSTOPIA, the heroes of old are mere legends, and the inhabitants of the domain fight for their freedom from their Lord Baron MAESTRO! Among those who fight is Ruby Summers, a warrior mutant with ruby quartz skin. Ruby, who had taken to wandering the desert on the outskirts of DYSTOPIA, came across a man claiming to be the legendary Odin! In the hopes that the former god may give her cause an upper hand against the tyrant Baron Maestro, a twisted version of the Hulk with a genius-level strategic intellect, Ruby carried the frail man back to civilization.

Joined by her fellow revolutionaries--Janis, the mind-reader Slider, and a teleporter name Skooter--Ruby led the weakened man to their underground base of the operation. However, a routine mind scan revealed that "Odin" was just Maestro is disguise! With Ruby moments from death, and the people of the haven scattered with fear, the leader of the anti-Maestro revolt revealed himself to be a...THING!

Flashback: Two men, one called "Major Thaddeus Ross," and the other, "Talbot," are in a rocket above Earth, trying to "beat the Russians to space," and are in space suits. They're suddenly hit by cosmic rays, and crash back to Earth. Ross gets out and checks for Talbot within the wreckage, only to find his body turned to breaking-glass. Ross himself then mutates into some kind of "Thing" variant, and chased off and shot at by pre-judging army types in a jeep. Ross/Thing takes off into the nearby forest, distraught...

Back to the future again, Maestro acknowledges this "Thing" as Ross, and both get into a heavy brawl. It starts with Maestro punching him upward and through the hideout, and into the streets of Dystopia. Ross/Thing motions the citizens to run for cover, and Maestro tries to stomp him, but he jumps out of the way in time. As Ruby and Janis plan to use other resistance member Skooter to help relocate the resistance, the fight continues with RT RT knocking Maestro through an under-construction building, which then collapses on him, but walks away. Maestro soon starts to beat RT down, which is interrupted by Ruby shooting eyeblasts at him to save him, but he resists the blasts. A person in a full-covering suit is operating some large, mechanical, dinosaur-like robot with teeth arrives and grabs Ruby in its mouth, and runs off with her. Janis pursues, and the two powerhouses go at it again. RT is now unconscious from the last hit, and Maestro's soldiers come and he orders them to capture him and take him back to his castle, adding that the resistance should die with their leader now taken.

Elsewhere, Ruby is dropped out of the machine's mouth, and the driver asks her to listen. Janis attacks him/her from behind, and she falls to the ground. He/She then says he's/she's on their side, removes his/her helmet to reveal a woman calling herself "Layla Miller," and that she's part of an internal-resistance within Maestro's palace, where they work for him.

Within the castle, Maestro has RT restrained to some machine by his wrists and ankles. Maestro makes a deal with him: Since he wants to get out of Dystopia, and RT also wants him out, he asks for help to get to The Palace of Doom, as he wants to kill him and take over. He asks RT to help, and he responds wanting to know more.

to be continued...

Comments: So there's a "Thing" out there that's not Ben Grimm, and is Thunderbolt Ross? First I've heard of this. Ross and Hulk are old enemies, I know that.

Future Imperfect

In Dystopia, the heroes of old are mere legends, and the inhabitants of the domain live under the strict rule of their lord and master, Baron MAESTRO...but not for long. A small band of rebels seek to overthrow his authority.

Among those who fight is the mutant warrior Ruby Summers. Ruby, who had taken to wandering the desert on the outskirts of DYSTOPIA, came across and main claiming to be the legendary Odin! In the hopes that the former god would advance their cause against Baron Maestro, Ruby led the weakened man to the revolt's underground base only to discover that "Odin" was just Maestro in disguise!

The leader of the anti-Maestro revolt, Major Thaddeus Ross a.k.a. the THING, duked it out with Maestro but was soon apprehended and taken to Maestro's palace!

Baron Maestro's Keep:
Janis, Ruby, Skooter, and Layla stand outside Maestro's palace, with Layla coming up with a plan to get inside, using a rear entrance mainly used for dumping out corpses the Maestro disposed of. She says she'll open the door from the inside, let them in, where they can now save their boss (RT), and then lead them to Maestro.

Later
Inside the palace, Layla talks to two other palace guards/resistance members, her saying she got Ruby and the others coming. Back outside, near the rear door area, stands Janis and the others, where Layla appears and drops down a rope for the others to climb up. Once all are inside, Ruby asks Layla where RT is. She replies that he must be in the detention cells in the basement, and leads them down there, also talking about there being even more resistance fighters within the palace. They open the door, only to see the large torture device we saw used on RT at the end of last issue, but no RT or anyone in the room. As Ruby accuses Layla of tricking them, armed guards arrive, ordering them to surrender. Ruby blasts them all with an eye blast. Skooter tries to leave through another door, but more soldiers come in through there. Ruby's shooting causes an explosion with at least one of the guards. Layla calls for "Jamie," with Ruby still firing away at the guards. The large dinosaur-robot from before arrives (Jamie), and starts attacking/eating the guards. Layla orders the robot to come to her, she pets it. All then agree to go to Maestro, even without RT. They take off up the stairs, Layla (riding Jamie) leading the way, while also trampling over more guards. Layla says Maestro is probably in his throne room, and still continue on. They reach the throne room door; Janis takes out the guards with her electric-staff-thing, and Ruby blasts open the doors. Inside, they are shocked to see Maestro sitting at a dining table with RT, with beautiful scanty-clad-dressed slave-women surrounding them, serving them. Maestro: "Thaddeus, it seems that your companions would care to join us in our repast. There are plenty of chairs around. Feel free to pull some up. We were just going over the details of our new working arrangements, and believe it or not, your names came up quite frequently. The roast, by the way, is particularly delicious tonight. And I see that you have some of my staff on your side. Fortunately, I am in a forgiving mood." Janis accuses Maestro of messing with RT's mind, but RT confirms he's here of his own choosing, that the two of them have been talking. Janis doesn't understand, but he yells and orders her and the others to sit down at the table with them. Skooter asks if they can eat. Janis says no. Ruby (to Maestro): "Would you please explain what the shock is going on here?" Maestro: "Thaddeus and I have been discussing our mutual desires. The most prominent one he has is that he wants me out of Dystopia. By startling coincidence, that's what I want as well." He then explains he wants to dethrone Doom and take over his domain. Janis and the others laugh. He then says it can be done, and has one of his servant women deliver a book to him and he and the others to look at. Maestro: "The path to it is challenging and treacherous. It is in a far-off land, guarded by fearsome trolls. But Mr. Ross and I...and ideally you... can obtain it. Once I have it, I can use it to destroy Doom and take over the world. And you can have Dystopia all to yourselves." Janis: "What's it called?" We see the image of the item in the book. Maestro: "It is called...the DESTROYER! And it will be mine."

to be continued...

Comments: Getting interesting. But just one line of someone saying "shock" being the sole 2099-reference so far.

In Dystopia, the heroes of old are mere legends, and the inhabitants of the domain live under the strict rule of their lord and master, Baron MAESTRO...but not for long. A small band of rebels seek to overthrow his authority.

After infiltrating the rebel camp by posing as the god Odin, Maestro defeated and captured the rebel leader Major Thaddeus Ross, and brought him back to this palace as a prisoner.

The remaining rebels, led by mutant Ruby Summers and aided by Layla Miller, infiltrated Maestro's palace to bust their boss out, only to find him allied with the Baron. The pair have a common enemy: Doom!

Snowy village called Norseheim:
Maestro, RT and the others arrive on a boat, wearing long coats with hoods. Once in the town, they decide to go ask around about the Destroyed at its pub.

Inside, Maestro asks a barmaid about someone called "Ulik." She gets a scared look on her face. A man then shows up from behind them, telling them all to leave, adding that he and the others in the pub want nothing to do with anyone seeking Ulik. Maestro removes his hood: "Answer my question." The man appears shocked, asking what he is. Maestro then picks up and throws a wooden table out through the nearby window. The man then admits he doesn't know where Ulik is. Maestro picks him up by the neck, threatening him. A man from behind tells Maestro to drop him. We see it's some blind, bearded guy with a cup of alcohol, who's sitting at another table with a cloth around his eyes: "Ulik resides in Nornheim. The main entrance is about five miles west of here. Bear right, out of the pub and just keep to the path. You'll pass it, but trust me, you won't miss it." Maestro asks who he is, and he says: "Hoder." Maestro asks how a blind man could know the residence of Ulik the Troll. Hoder: "Because, once upon a time, I was a god. Baldur was my brother. Thor my friend. Odin my liege. But that was a long, long while ago. Before it all ended. Because of me." He takes a swig, then adds: "When Ulik kills you, tell him that I said hello."

Later on, our party is now walking through a snowy forest. Skooter and Ruby fight over if they should be doing this. RT and Maestro talk some too. Maestro (I think): "Dissension in the ranks?" RT (I think): "Dissension is good. It gets ideas out there that normally wouldn't be spoken." Maestro: "You know what? We should have been friends a long time ago, Thaddeus." RT: "We're not friends NOW, Bruce. We will NEVER be friends. I'm just trying to get you out of Dystopia, and if this is the way to do it, then so be it. And if Ulik has you on the brink of death, I'm just gonna stand there and applaud." Maestro: "Good to know where I stand." RT: "I'm a big believer in honesty." Maestro: "There are worse things to believe in." RT: "Such as that you're the supreme ruler whose word is law?" Maestro: "That's not a belief. That's the way things are." RT: "Yeah, well...things change." He then looks up and in front of himself: "Ah, I believe that's the entrance to Nornheim." Before them is a cave with "Nornehim" written at the top of it. Maestro: "You think?" They all walk in.

RT: "So this Ulik is supposed to be able to guide us to the Destroyer?" Maestro says that's what the book said, and that he stole it from Doom. RT then orders everyone that they're heading back home, also to Skooter's approval. Maestro: "What's the problem, Ross?" RT: "Do you seriously think you were able to steal something from Doom and he wouldn't know?" Maestro: "You underestimate me." RT: "And you underestimate Doom." Maestro: "We had an understanding, Ross." RT: "And how we have a new understanding. My people and I are heading back to Dystopia." Maestro: "I'm afraid that's not possible." A voice nearby that everyone turns to: "That's very true." Its's shown to be some hairy humanoid guy (surrounded by troll-minions): "No one enters Nornheim and lives." Maestro asks if he's Ulik, and he confirms it. Maestro says he wants the Destroyer. The minions all laugh. They all then get in a fight. Ruby eyeblasts the minions, as RT takes on Ulik. He punches RT aside, but Maestro takes over as his opponent. Ulik tries to punch him too, but does nothing to Maestro, who then rams him through the cave wall and into a room with a pool at the bottom. As they plummet, Maestro says he'll release him if he takes him to the Destroyer armor. While stepping out of the water, Ulik mentions that the Destroyer is guarded by "The Anceient One," placed there by Doom himself, and that he'll never give him access. Maestro says to bring him to him. Ulik says he won't, and they fight again.

Back above, in the previous part of the cave: Janis and the others fight the minions still, one of them breaking Skooter's neck.

Back again, Maestro is severely pummeling Ulik.

Back once more, RT is beating about the minions, yelling to everyone to get out of here. Ruby eyeblasts a minion, then another punches her down. As she's on her hands and knees, the minion is about to finish her off, when Ulik walks back up to them (Maestro following from behind), ordering them to bring them to The Ancient One; let him deal with them.

As they walk along a path within the cave, the Maestro and RT have more discussion. RT: "This is still a bad idea." Maestro: "I will destroy Doom. Isn't that obvious yet?" RT: "No, Doom will destroy you." Maestro: "Then why have you allied yourself with me?" RT: "Because I WANT Doom to destroy you. Isn't that obvious?" Maestro: "It should be, I suppose. But you still do not appreciate the possibilities of what happens once I have the Destroyer. Doom is not a god, no matter what you may think. And anything not a god can be destroyed." Ulik points ahead of the cave path to an section where a light emerges, saying The Ancient One is in there. Maestro steps into the area: "Ancient One! I am the Maestro! I WANT THE DESTROYER!" Voice inside the room: "Yeah?" Maestro looks in disbelief. It's really a very old Rick Jones: "Cool."

Future Imperfect

In DYSTOPIA, the heroes of old are mere legends, and the inhabitants of the domain live under the strict rule of their lord and master, Baron MAESTRO...but not for long. A small group of rebels seek to overthrow his authority.

Maestro captured rebel leader Major Thaddeus Ross and held him prisoner. When the remaining rebels led by mutant Ruby Summers and aided by Layla Miller, infiltrated Maestro's palace to break Ross out, they found him allied with the Baron against their true overlord, Doom!

To have any hope against Doom, the two factions formed a shaky union and ventured to a domain of myth and legend, Norseheim, seeking the weapon known as "The Destroyer." But WHO they uncovered was far more shocking than a mere weapon...

Maestro and the others stare in disbelief. Janis: "Grandpa?" RJ: "Hey, little girl. Been awhile." Maestro verbally suspects some trap on RJ's part, or try to appeal to his old Bruce/Hulk-self. RJ says he can just easily take him to the Destroyer.

They all then follow along a new path with the caves. Soon, RJ points ahead once in another cave-room, saying the armor's all Maestro's, and he can just take it. We see the armor standing on some rock-pillar, surrounded by a chasm around it, and some walkway around the chasm, which is what they are on. Maestro is still unconvinced of how easy it all seems to be. RJ says to just touch it, and he can control it. Maestro is still not buying it. RJ then says that it's not simple, that Doom himself is already on his way here, that he summoned him. RJ: "This is his place of power. It's wish central. All wishing wells, everywhere, are connected to this place. And he knows you're trespassing. You've only got minutes 'til he gets here. And then he'll kill you. So...not so much with the simple. Up to you, man. I really don't give a da*n." Maestro: "If this is a trap, Jones, rest assured, I will survive it. But you won't. That I promise you." He then jumps the chasm to the pillar with the armor. Maestro: "All right. Now what do I do?" RJ: "You? You do nothing. Now it's all the Destroyer. But here's the question: Are you really sure you want to do this? Think about it, Bruce, 'cause there's no turning back..." Maestro: "Stop calling me 'Bruce.' Bruce Banner is long gone. I'm the Maestro! THE MAESTRO!" The armor begins to energize. Maestro asks what the problem is. RJ: "I'll tell ya what's happening. It's the beginning of the end. That's what." Maestro: "It's...It's TALKING to me! I can hear it! How is this HAPPENING?" RJ (with a figure in a cloak coming up from behind): "It's what was meant to happen, buddy." The cloak guy reveals to be Dr. Doom himself, in a white-colored armor, asking who dares enter his domain uninvited and steal his Destroyer. He then addresses RT, asking if he led this expedition. RJ says it was Maestro, also pointing to him. Doom orders Maestro to get away from the armor, but it seems both he and the armor are now fusing. Doom is standing in disbelief. He and the armor are now fully fuzed. A huge battle between the two commence, with the others getting some cover. Both battle, but Destroyer/Maestro keeps taking Doom down. Doom hits him with gauntlet blasts, but does no damage. DM just punches him down. Doom does some punching of his own, but it does nothing, and is punched down again. Doom tries a "disintegration blast" from his eyes, but still, no damage. DM realizes he has that blast-type as well, from the armor, and uses it on Doom. He erects a forcefield around him, blocking the blast. He tries to reason with DM, asking for a partnership. DM, still angry with all the serving he had to do with Doom for ages, increases the power, which finally reduces Doom to ash. DM is excited that he's won, and somehow lands center within a large stadium-area with Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Iron Man, and other super-beings of Earth. He yells them to bow down to him, and they do. In reality, though, Janis, RJ and the others are still in the cave from before, with Maestro standing before his armor, caught in a mental delusion of the Doom-fighting events, still thinking he beat him and took over Doom's domain. Janis: "Uh...Gramps...what the hell is happening?" RJ: "He won." Layla: "Excuse me?" Maestro: "Yes! Bow down to me! That is as it should be!" RJ: "I told him going in, this is a wishing well. It grants wishes. He wished to defeat Doom. It gave him that wish." Maestro: "Do not worry. I shall be a just god. A beneficent god." He reverts back to an old Bruce Banner: "And all who obey me will live." Janis or Layla: "And...how long will he stay here?" RJ: "Until he dies. Go home now." Janis: "And you're coming with us, Gramps...?" RJ: "Nope. This is where Doom assigned me. This is where I have to stay. Me and him. Until the end of time." Janis and the others begin to walk towards outside the cave. Janis (turning around to RJ as she leaves): "That sucks." RJ: "Eh. There's worse ways to live." Banner: "I am the Maestro! King of Kings! Look on my works, ye mighty...and despair!"

end.

Comments: Maestro's/Banner's delusion of victory immediately reminded my of Green Goblin 1's from a somewhat-post-90's Clone Saga event where he did the same thing with Spidey, but in reality, Spidey had really beat him down. And just someone saying "shock" and no other nods to 2099? I'd heard there'd be more 2099-related stuff here. Oh, well.

Help make an "Evil Dead: The Game" tie-in and/or continuation comics from Dark Horse Comics or IDW Publishing:
https://www.change.org/p/michael-m-richardson-president-of-dark-horse-comics-ted-adams-idw-s-ceo-publisher-sam-raimi-bruce-campbell-and-robert-tapert-ash-vs-evil-dead-the-game-tie-in-and-or-continuation-comics-from-dark-horse-or-idw-publishing

Starz cancelled the show, Bruce Campbell has retired as Ash, and there's going to be a post-show video game called "Evil Dead: The Game", so help us with our petition for tie-in and/or continuation comics of it!

Also, I've made a .doc file for a posted flyer for the page. Please also print and post these pages at your LCS.
