Subj: The X-Files: Hell Money and Jose Chung's From Outer Space

I watched these two episodes recently, #'s 19 and 20 from season 3(1996).

Hell Money was never a favorite of mine. It's not bad, but I've always found it a bit boring, and did with this rewatching. It involves a lottery in San Francisco's Chinatown in which the participants wager organs for transplant against a jackpot of $2 million. It has some interesting ideas and moody scenes but Mulder and Scully don't do much to solve the case and the plot is a bit muddled. Lucy Liu makes an appearance.

Jose Chung's From Outer Space is a classic which tells the story of an abduction which could've been perpetrated by alien or by the government and the different ways the people involved report the happenings. It has fantastic writing with tons of nods and in-jokes to previous episodes, alien autopsy videos and real life ufo-logists. There are great quirky performances by Charles Nelson Reilly as Jose Chung, Alex Trebek and Jesse Ventura as Men In Black, a foul-mouthed detective and ufo nuts. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are also great as they act out scenes that mean to show how other people might view them.
Before this re-viewing of the series, I knew the name of writer Darin Morgan, but I hadn't realized he wrote 4 episodes which I consider among my favorites. Great stuff!
