I have a strong feeling he would have been mine if I had been reading comics more regularly in the particular years when his book was coming out. Texeira's art (as inker and/or penciller) was perfect for this series. I've also read that this book was unique for crossing over with X-books at a time when other non-X books didn't do that. Were you a fan?

A very excellent series, though Howard Mackie did leave many things unresolved when he left the book, including the origins of this particular Rider.

Also, the Medallion of Power and full origins of the Spirits of Vengeance vs. Zarathos were not explored.

Also how Zarathos and Centurious escaped the Soul Crystal they were trapped in at the end of the original Blaze GR series was never explained, nor the identity of Danny's father. Yet Danny and Johnny are apparently brothers.

Then Ivan Valez Jr. took over the book, the artwork changed, the Rider adopted that neon costume and Akira style bike and the sales PLUNGED. Valez ignored everything previously established, gave us the origins of the Rider, the art became more horrific (which told me the book was going to be canned), then in response to fan demand towards the end the Rider's bike and costume were reverted, but damage done as they say.

Then the series is canned before issue 94 was released, also due to Marvel nearly going under at the time. issue 94 was finally released when the first GR movie was released.

Then after the GR series was ended, Howard Mackie was writing Spider-man and gave us an issue where the Rider was basically reset to default and restored as the spirit of venegeance and merged with Dan again.

Then years later we got the GR series about the Fall of Heaven and Danny was reduced to a power addicted pawn of Zadkiel, he was restored as a Rider at the end, but I think Marvel has him depowered again for some odd reason.

Basically they want Blaze as the Rider when they aren't focused on the SJW Robbie Reyes Rider. (WORST! RIDER! EVER!)

I never liked the Ghost Riders. Ghost Rider just represented the things I didn't like in the 90's.

Definitely. I didn't read a whole lot, but what I did I liked.

Also, Ketch's GR looks and bike were superior to Blaze's in so many ways. His GR actually had a full-flaming skull at all times, a rad black and grey suit with spikes, a chain-whip, and a cool, large bike, with a large skull-emblem on the top-front. Blaze also came back as Ketch/GR's former-GR partner and Ketch also got a cast of great villains, such as Blackheart and Vengeance. I liked that the 2007 film incorporated the costume/whip stuff, even though they used Blaze instead. I really wish Ketch was still just the GR, instead of Blaze (let his story as GR stay finished) or Reyes (don't care for him).

Nope. Didn't read it at the time and I had already been pretty indifferent about the Johnny Blaze version.

Not sure about the claim that Ghost Rider vol. 2 (1990-1998) being unique for crossing over with the X-books when other non-X books. Didn't X-Men and Avengers cross over during Onslaught (1996) at least? And I'm sure that wasn't the only such crossover during the 1990s. IIRC isolating the X-books from the rest of the Marvel Universe was something initiated by a certain overrated Scottish writer...

I still like Johnny Blaze because I had a few Ghost Rider comics from the 70's when I was a kid but I do like the team of Mackie and Texeira on the Ketch Ghost Rider. I didn't read it at the time but I've enjoyed issues I've picked up since. Spirits Of Vengeance was pretty good at times, too. Of course, Mackie could become confusing or lose track of where his story was going sometimes, but for the most part, his Ghost Rider was pretty good. I remember Spirits Of Vengeance #6 having a great Venom cover and Midnight Sons Unlimited #3(not by Mackie) being one of the worst comics from the 90's I ever read.
