Subj: New banner! What was your favorite BATMAN story from the 80s or 90s?

I confess I was somewhat anti-Batman in the 80s and 90s, because I didn't recognize the guy. He wasn't the hero I had known in the Bronze Age. By the end of the 90s he was finally becoming familiar to me, but as this other character, some new character who wasn't the same guy Jim Aparo and Neal Adams had drawn. But many fans strongly prefer this other guy. Thing is, they usually draw a distinction between this other guy and the 1950s and 1960s Batman, who hadn't been around since, well, the 1950s and 1960s. It's the same as with Superman. For some odd reason, many fans just don't realize that Superman and Batman in the 1970s were very different from Superman and Batman in the 1950s and 1960s. All you have to do is actually read the Bronze Age comics and you'll see it immediately.

In any case, I've highlighted Knightfall and The Killing Joke in my banner. These two stories are often cited as classic Batman stories. Are either or both of these your favorites from the 80s and 90s? Or is there some other story you want to call out as being the awesomest? There are of course the Frank Miller stories. There was A Death in the Family. There was The Son of the Demon, which even I loved, and which in fact is my personal choice as best Batman story from our era. There are No Man's Land and The Long Halloween.

What's your pick?
