Swiss actor Bruno Ganz, a leading light of the German-speaking stage and screen and holder of the Ifflandring, died on the 16th of this month at the age of 77.

He is best remembered for his role as the angel Damiel in Wim Wenders' "Der Himmel über Berlin" (English title: "Wings of Desire"), one of the signature films of German cinema in the 1980s, in which Ganz acted alongside Otto Sander, Solveig Dommartin, Curt Bois and Peter Falk.

He will be missed.
