Subj: My overall opinion of IDW's ROM series

so it goes about 14 issues and an annual, then the plug gets pulled and his story is resolved in a crossover with the Micronauts then he goes on to appear in the Transformers.....
All in all, I am not certain that counts as a success. The story was the same in terms of Wraiths finding Earth to be the best planet they could infiltrate and infest. But with more gore and some interesting designs for the Wraiths.
ROM's new modern appearance is overall a nice upgrade, the oven mittens are gone and he now has fingers and thumbs. Weapons are integrated into his armor, including some swords and other weapons the original never had.
The alien metal that made ROM and others into Spaceknights cannot come off and they are essentially immortal as long as they don't use up all their power/life force. Yet there seemed to be no major pathos or angst about any loss of humanity or never being able to be human again.
ROM did vow to do whatever it takes to end the Wraiths when he first arrived on Earth, and he did seem more ruthless then the original ever was. But his time on earth has the typical adjusting of alien attitudes effect that also made the Surfer turn against Galactus and made Mar-Vell rebel against the Kree.
His fellow spaceknights however were clearly a bit too ruthless after centuries of war and had no problem blowing up infested planets regardless of the loss of innocents. ROM himself seems to have done that in the past but now he has changed his ways and rediscovered a sense of humanity.
But before these things are explored further, the plug is pulled and his story rather hastily wrapped up with a Micronauts crossover, the Wraiths exposed and purged from Earth, etc. etc.
Now the backup stories with art by classic ROM artist Sal Buscema were nice and ROM looked great in them.
The artwork in the main stories....well let's call in an acquired taste that is hard to acquire.
Now IDW is doing what I believe is a 3 part mini series that shows how the Wraiths first came to Earth. Other then that I do not know yet what IDW has planned for ROM.
Rumors of a ROM movie or Hasbro-verse of movies have floated around.
Also IDW did promise a new ROM would arise from the cancellation but that hasn't really happened.
So unless the completely retool and reboot ROM into a new series and try again, I don't what else they could do.
However they could try to talk to Marvel and get an agreement for a limited reprint of the classic series.
