Subj: So, Gerry Conway Is Going To Return To The Spider-Verse. Any Thoughts?

I read this last week or so, but I didn't get a chance to post. What do you guys think about this? I think that this can backfire big time, and I don't want to get my hopes up, which can lead to disappointment. I've been reading a lot of his Spectacular and Web of work in the late 80's / early 90's, and I think that was a very underrated period. The introduction of Tombstone (Who no other writer has seemed to make cool or threatening after Conway.), the Lobo Brothers war with the Kingpin, his work with the Arranger (He's stayed dead, hasn't he? Wow!), his handling of Joe Robertson, Mary Jane's cousin who had an eating disorder, all of this was good stuff, I thought. I grew up reading the comics, but they still hold up, I think. And of course he's widely known for killing off Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn, as well as introducing the Punisher. And I LOVED the Jackal that he wrote, and I think that it's a shame that they pretty much ruined the character when they brought him back to life. But I think that he's a pretty good (Not GREAT!)writer, and that he doesn't get the credit that he should get. He's written for TV as well, and I would like to check out the Father Dowling episodes that he worked on.

But I think that when a classic creator returns to a book that they've had an acclaimed run on, a lot of fans set high expectations, and they have high hopes which, unfortunately, are often not met. Sometimes the creators seem to be too old school, and they're writing hasn't changed, and or adapted to current standards. Chris Claremont, for example. So, maybe Gerry had his heyday. But I do want to check this out, and this sounds interesting. I think that I'll be disappointed, but I think that he'll do a decent job. What do you guys think? Did anyone read his work on that Animal Man mini-series that he did a few years ago for DC? I've heard some good things.
