Subj: Axis Carnage #2: To recommend or not to recommend...

Not necessarily recommending this but y'know what? Blindly accepting the problematic premise putting Carnage in this inverted do-gooder position, this was a quite enjoyable read...
Axis: Carnage 002
As ugly as this character design for Carnage is (maybe the point?) the rest of the are was good. Sure, the segue to Sin-Eater getting into the car with Alice was waaay to rushed. As importantly, the dialogue was not silly at all and quite insighful in spots as the irredeemable Carnage deludes himself into seeking redemption. Sure, the bit about her not wanting to get her hair wet was waaay to arbitrarily silly.
Hated #1 but gave this another chance to find out about this Sin-Eater foe. Unfortunately this chapter was barely about him and instead spotlighted Alice who became waaay more an interesting character this time. Even Cletus was much more fun to read with his inappropriate ineptitude and reprehensible reasonings. IMO, the Inversion Spell has skewed wisdom and not experience and intelligence(or lack thereof) and in that way Carnage seemed spot on.
The cover was waaay good.
Opening with his origin was good. Even though it was skewed it was easy to follow and see his sympathetic origin. Question: How much of this flashback have we already seen in backissues? It was skewed with him in a makeshift Carnage suit, eh? The red 2-tone coloring was an appreciated/differentiating creative choice too.
Alice talking herself out of captivity into a team-up with Carnage was good. She will impress you here.
"Who the heck are Jim and Gloria?" followed by "Who cares?" was about to be the first impression they gave until the 2nd panel of their sequences. Their dialogue was clever and engaging. Plus they brought readers the only meaningful clues to the origins of Sin-Eater along with some decaying corpse drama. How was he mixed up with Sin-Eater in the PAD arc and WEHT to Emil Gregg?
The graveyard scene had some good black comedy and story advancement for the Diametrically-opposed Duo. The SWAThunt was a believable and enjoyable direction for NYC to take [waaay more than the public/paparazzi fawning over a fugitive superhuman called Axis Hobgoblin]. And just when you think that gravedigger was a throwaway character - he comes back to deliver the hilarious ly smart advice to "FOLLOW THE WEBS"!
Carnage taking care of the bankrobbers in that insane fashion was more good especially with the story quality of this chapter established. Sin-Eater showing up and getting involved because of Alice 'the sinner' results in a strong climax and priority for Cletus to attend to next issue. And then they top that with a fantastic sight gag and cliffhanger splash.
Okay, (surprisingly) it is kinda worth recommending a bit. If you read it, do you agree?
I miss Dad and Dan.
